fuel problem

my buddy has a 87 chevy 4x4 with electric fuel pump 350 and was goin down the road and it started sputturing and it died and wouldnt crank and you can turn the switch on and the fuel pump dont make a noise so he replaced it and it still dont work and he put the relay on some other dudes truck and his still runs so it aint the relay does anyone know what it might could be

used a test light to see if it had power going to it? could have crimped a wire somewhere between the bed and the frame or anywhere, could be a bad fuse or a bad ground, use just gotta trace the gremlins out now.
