Low Buck came home on a flat bed! Need gauge help.
Yep thats right I was comming home from picking up an IRS set up for another project when my truck gave it up. Turns out the Alt. went bad and once my battery went low it all started acting funny and left me on the side of the freeway.
I did not know it was bad untill to late so now I guess I should get my voltage gauge working in the dash. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get my stock dash gauge working so I can tell when it is and is not charging? Thanks for any help you might have. Kevin LFD Inc. |

Unless you changed the gauge you have an ampmeter not a voltmeter. I would reccomend changing to a voltmeter (out of a 73-87). Otherwise first thing to do is check the two 4amp fuses in the black rubber cases on either fender well.

Huh! Aint never seen these, got a pic? Kevin, the color wiring diagrams should help ya troubleshoot the electrical situation and if ya need a good amp gauge I have one you prolly do too, check the printed circuit for defects and the voltage reg. but consider swapping to internal reg alt CS10 orCS12 think theres info in the FAQ section on it! Gettin stranded is the pits! |

I had the same problem so I drilled out the rivets of the amp-meter and placed the original gauge background on a new cheepy voltage meter from NAPA ($14).GringoLoco did the same thing in his Camaro tachometer write up that is in the FAQ. You can't even tell it’s not original, besides the needle pointing to the left instead of being centered. Then I left the positive terminal connected to the printed circuit and grounded the other side.
My only problem is that my printed circuit is not getting juice to that terminal in the cluster plug. I was told that my two 4amp fuses in the black rubber cases under the hood needed changed but I can not find them where the wire diagram shows them, by the horn and on the fender by the battery. Does anyone have or can take a picture of where their fuses are located and what they look like?

Sorry guys I was in a hurry at 3am before leaving for work.
I have a 92 LT1 in the truck with a 124A internal regulated alt. I am putting in a 140A unit and need a gauge that works. My stock gauge is not hooked up or are their any wires left for it. So I am thinking that the $14 Napa gauge is the way to go. Does anyone have a link to the swap? Thanks for all the help. Kevin LFD Inc. |

I got left dead in the water from those teeny fuses burning out.I checked them on a hunch and sure enough could see one or both wear burned out.Found new ones and down the road we went.
They are known as fuseable links.

I like the idiot light. Basicaly you wire switched power to one side of a 194 (peanut bulb) & the other to terminal L on the alternator. When you turn the switch on the bulb is illuminated & when the alternator is charging the bulb goes out. I found this works very well. Here is the wiring diagram for a 92 corvette with an lt1
