66 front brake drums

I'm a newbie and this site ROCKS!

Here's my first post and it seems a little dumb but here goes. I'm replacing the front drums on my 66 and the new drums have no adjustment slots nor does the backing plate. Local brake warehouse claims they don't make drums with adjustment slots anymore. They said I have to do it manually with drums off. If this is the case any pointers.

When I bought my new ones for the rear, there was a knockout stamped into one (but not knocked out) and nothing on the 2nd. We had to drill and cut a slot into both.

Adjusting them with the drums off sounds fun... how many times do you have to take the drums off during an adjustment, about 20???

the ones I bought recently at NAPA had the knockouts cut but still in place, sort of an oblong slot - a punch and a few whacks with a bfh took care of it

Indeed it DOES!

Here's a shot of my brakes - may help to see one set up that works Very Well - I see no need for changing over to discs.

Ya if i would have had to take the drums on and off more than a couple of times, i would have cut or drilled a slot in the backing plate!! forget that! modify it

Thanks for the info. One ended up having a knockout tab and the other didn't, I'll modify it at a later date. Thinking discs will be the way to go.

Oh ya disc is they way to go for cruising

Its not a real hard upgrade either.. well if you use a donor truck and not go all out with expencive stuff
