Oil pressure light keeps coming on.

i have a 1962 c-10 with the 235 c.i. inline 6, recently i changed the oil which hadnt been done in a long time i assume due to the thickness and color and now my oil pressure light has been coming on, i believe i put enough oil in it, the only other thing i could think if it has the correct amount of oil would be the oil pump? any ideas? ive been thinking of putting a pressure gauge to check, any body have a good spot to put one on it and where is the oil pump located? new to this truck and dont have a manuel, also how many quarts do these trucks normally take? thanks alot for the help.

Oil pump is in the pan. I guess it should take 5 quarts, but I've never owned a 6 banger.

Re: Oil pressure light keeps coming on.

Seems to me there's an oil port on the gallery on the passenger side. You could tee a gauge in there and see what kind of pressure you have. I agree that the 5 quarts sounds about right. You could also tee at the location where your pressure switch picks up from now.

Good luck.

Re: Oil pressure light keeps coming on.

What kind of filter?

Not a crappy FRAM I hope.

I had an issue with a filter that dropped my pressure.
Changed the filter and back to good.

Re: Oil pressure light keeps coming on.

Rogue, funny you should mention Fram filters. I used to think they were good too. But then I read a writeup a fellow on the net did where he bought every conceivable filter for a small-block Ford. He cut them all apart and examined their construction and how much filter material was present. Turned out the Fram was crap. As I recall, the AC/Delco ones showed the best.

If anyone's interested, I can probably find the writeup again.

Re: Oil pressure light keeps coming on.

What weight oil did you put in it... I would assume it takes 5 quarts. Make sure that canister is clean. Maybe something in the oil lines????
