87 chevy 350

I bought an 87 c10 for the engine and trans. It had a 350 throttle body motor and 700r4 trans. Here is my question, the 87-95 motors all seem to have different heads and intake. Are these heads any good?If not can you use the 55-86 heads and intake,or the later vortec style heads and intake.Im not looking to build a powerhouse motor just a good strong eng in the 350-400 horse area

87-95 heads suck. I believe they are called whirlport heads and are only good until 4000rpm or so. They don't make good power.

You can add Vortec heads. I am using a 89 TBI suburban shortblock with a Comp Cams camshaft, 97 model cast iron Vortec heads, and a Edlebrock intake/carb.

Re: 87 chevy 350

Yeah, but can you go backwards with the heads. I have an 87-95 roller cam block, and I want to put on 70's model 350 heads. I have the older style intake manifold for the older heads. Will everything work? I know the 87-95 heads are terrible, but blocks seem ok.
