Re: VIN/What do I have pt2

Your jamb-plate has been swapped.I think that is all.Prolly a title problem,so they switched it.It doesn`t even look like it`s been painted,or is painted back in original color.I don`t see a mix of trucks there. What number is on the SPID?Does it match the frame?IThat`s not a complete number on the frame.Everything indicates it`s a`71 C2500 that has just had the I.D. changed...and motor.

Re: VIN/What do I have pt2

SPID is the label in the glove box. IT looks to me like the frame and the cab/body are from two different trucks. Like Special K said, someone swapped something around whihc is quiet common for these trucks. Takes parts from several vehicels to put one back to life.

Darkblu....looks like you got three (at least) different vehicles there since the SPID doesn't match the cab or frame#

Re: VIN/What do I have pt2

Thats what I was thinkin. This thing must be a Frankenstein. The title matches the one on the door frame, and the title reads 1970, so who knows. Are there just the 3 places VINs are located? Maybe I can find a 4th #, and it be different.

The title's probably the best one to go with. You can always reproduce the SPID, and then add what it is you want on there. By the looks of the SPID on the door, it looks like it was a nicely optioned truck (where ever it came from).

I don't think that there are any other places for the VIN's

By the way, I noticed that the doors have the Custom Camper script on there. Are you planning on removing them?

Re: VIN/What do I have pt2

I think your cab is from a 1 ton CustomCamper(GMC Longhorn).That`s my hunch.The SPID or VIN-spes sheet states it`s a 133" 1 ton.What do your fender badges say,2500 Custom or 3500?Maybe the truck was a CustomCamper/Longhorn that got set on a 127" 2500 frame w/bed.Is the whole truck repainted,just the bed,or none?If none,maybe the guy found a matching 8` bed.

Re: VIN/What do I have pt2

It syas 3500, I beleive the whole thing was repainted because of a few overspray in some areas. What is the difference between 1 and 3/4 tons? Is there another way to tell the difference between 127" and 133" other than measuring of coarse?

There is one other place there might be a vin and that is on a sticker on your drivers door. Most of these are gone by now but you never know mine was still there.

Re: VIN/What do I have pt2

I'm going with the SPID is correct for the truck, then they set it on a long wheelbase frame, then they had some sort of title problem, so they switched out the VIN plate on the door jamb so they could get a clean title. Maybe the truck was originally wrecked, so they changed the frame out, then they didn't want a salvage title so they changed out the VIN plate on the door jamb. That is just one theory, nice truck though.

Re: VIN/What do I have pt2

have you had it inspected for the title work yet? You may have some issues since none of the VINS match, and the VIN plate has the wrong rivits on it.

Re: VIN/What do I have pt2

Yeah I got that taken care of. Some old lady just came out and matched the door frame VIN with the one on the title and filled out a piece of paper which cost me $3.50. Next I have to have the title switch from Indiana to Ohio, but the great state of Ohio is trying to hose me with Ohio state taxes which is a joke. Bought it from a private seller that owns a body shop, but all the BMV associates are convinced its a dealership regardless of what I say.

Re: VIN/What do I have pt2

you have to pay taxes on any vehicle you buy regardless of whom the seller is.
You got lucky, but screwed at the same time.
The lady wasn't supposed to charge you to do that. In the last 7 years, i have titled 5 out of state vehicles here in ohio, and never had to pay to have it inspected.
however... she was supposed to stop you with those way wrong rivits.
I guess it was worth the 3.50 then huh?

Yup, she was about to look for the one in the glove box, but I caught her and showed her the one in the door frame. She didn't seem to like her job really. I will work it out and have it on the road in a week.

Something I am seeing on your truck...
The black wheels just look funny to me. (I know, it's MY problem! )
Imagine them painted white... it'll match the trim on your rig, and only cost a few hrs labor for a quickie, and $10 in wall mart paint.
Something to think about anyways.
It's still 10 times nicer than my pile.
