Lots of potential!!! Some one was sparing no expense it looks like. Did you buy it? What was the asking price? That truck needs to be finished...

Re: '72 Sierra Grande Longhorn find

engine has been rebuilt, without checking the numbers it is supposed to be original. ALL paper work is included, including the "let's sit down and write down a deal with your options so I can discuss the price with the sales manager". detroit installed. spid show 400ci, he has one list in which it states 396 ci, would this be the 402? also, can someone enlighten me to what the dial next to the light switch is. it moves the white needle in the speedo.
all the brakes and the front end have been redone. All the parts are there, cab seems fine, but there is rust (possibly all surface) all arond the windshield opening. rockers look fine, don't know about the inner rockers. front cab supports ok, rears are shot. bed sides, tailgate are great.

there has been alot of engine, front end work to stock specs. cab engine wall has a couple of bubble of rust. this would make a great stock show truck. all the parts to finish it are there.

I would love to buy this to complete in a couple of years, however his asking price is $7500. I'm thinking this is to high, I was thinking more along $4500.
what do you think a fair price would be??

thx,
Al.

Re: '72 Sierra Grande Longhorn find

that's a speedwarning dash... you set the speed with the white needle and a buzzer went off to warn you... With a tach I would say the dash is worth over $500 USD...

Nice truck, hard to find original numbers matching with all the paperwork.

Re: '72 Sierra Grande Longhorn find

They listed the 400 as a 396 still. The knob id speedwarning set knob.
In that state ,I have to agree with you on price. It`s a partially disassembled decent survivor with some things rebuilt and some nice replacement parts. But,you can only get that kind of money with it put back together.

Re: '72 Sierra Grande Longhorn find

I agree with tim, 7500 is a real low figure if it was in one piece, in this condition, 4000 would be a bit closer to home IMO.

Re: '72 Sierra Grande Longhorn find

Hey Andy, I was timing how long you would take to see the "Longhorn" in the caption. I gave you 3 hrs. exactly 30 minutes, spectacular.

I was thinking the same on the price. I didn't get to go through all the parts. not listed on the glove box was any radio, any chance this was standard equip. on the Sierra Grande model?

LOL! yeah, i saw it and zero'd in on it pretty qick. My computer was callin for me.
The radio wasn't included in the option package. it coulda been added (I assume you saw evendence of a radio?)
It's interesting how the dealer installed a locker and added it to the SPID like that. Never seen that done.

Re: '72 Sierra Grande Longhorn find

My 72 GMC SPID lists the engine as 400, not 396.

Re: '72 Sierra Grande Longhorn find

some spids said 400, some said 396, some said 402. Any way you say it, it's a 402 from 1970 till september of 72.
After Sept of 72, trucks got real ugly and they just don't matter. (love razzin the square body guys)

I don't recall ever seeing a spid with a 402 designation. Agreed that they were 402, but never seen them listed like that.
