Re: Anybody have The Chevrolet Pickup Red Book?
no book will tell you how many were built like that. GM didn't keep those records. All you'll find is GM's estimate on how many in a percentage, which is useless info becouse they don't tell you the % into 1/2 tons, or % into a model number.
All they say (just looked it up) is in 1970, 5% of the trucks that could get a big block, did get one. This includes; C/10 Short/step short/fleet long/step long/fleet cab/chassis short cab/chassis long cowl chassis p/10 short p/10 long C/20 fleet step longhorn cab/chassis cowl/chassis p/30 C/30 step fleet cab/chassis 133 cab/chassis 157 cowl/chassis 133 cowl/chassis 175 p/30 133 p/30 157 Suburban clam shell barn door I don't think I missed anything. I had the red book, and I personally found it to be sub par. My preference is the Standard Catalog of American Light Duty trucks 1896 to 2000 (isbn 0-87341-933-2) |

Re: Anybody have The Chevrolet Pickup Red Book?
I have both.Niether has the info you're looking for.I have collected as many books on the 67-72 Chevy trucks as I can find.None of them have the info.I seriously doubt GM tracked any of this stuff at the time. They probably do now since it's used in market research to determine what to build for the next models.
It's doubtful that any of the P models had BB.I have never seen a Panel with a BB.Cowl Chassis models were used to build buses, motor homes and probably specialty vehicles like fire trucks and ambulances(maybe),some of which probably had BB power. I would say the 5% is probably pretty accurate. For instance if 10,000 were bult total then 500 would have been BB.Just a guess but it's the info we have to work with.
