Lead pellets in gas tank
Anyone know what the story is on these? I dropped the tank on my Blazer and found 3 little dime shaped lead pellets rolling around in it. Some gas saving gimic or something?

Re: Lead pellets in gas tank
Maybe someone was trying to put lead back in the gas?? I have no idea why someone would do that. We used to use lead substitutes that came in liquid form. One can per tank of gas.

Re: Lead pellets in gas tank
The Shell gas station in town here sells lead substitute in a liquid form. I'm sure it's been sitting around for a while.

It protects the engine from evil spirits within the molecular structure of the gasoline.

Re: Lead pellets in gas tank
Are you sure it was lead?
Maybe solder, old repair, soldering the filler neck in?Extra solder falling into the tank? Just a guess.

Re: Lead pellets in gas tank
You know, I had a neighbor kid when I was a kid and his dad used to put some kind of additive in his tank and the kid swore to me than each can of additive had a quarter inside... Maybe those things were in a can to mix an additive when it was added to the tank. Maybe that kid only thought they were quarters...
You got me, but it triggered a memory for me! Thanks, Rg

Re: Lead pellets in gas tank
Like mothballs in the gas tank to increase octane... What better way to add lead to unleaded fuel.

Re: Lead pellets in gas tank
Some punk put BB's into your tank maybe?
There are "urban legends" (not sure if they were true or not) that some gas stations used to put tiny metal balls in their fuel tanks so they would be giving you less gas at the pump. I never believed those stories, but hey...
