inline tube brake lines dont fit!!!
i bought a set of stainless steel brake lines from inline tube, like every real hotrodder, they set in the box for almost a year before i got around to them. The lines for the rear axle pass each other by about 6 inches, they ore to long, my truck is a 68 with a 71 rear axle, i emailed them and told them my problem, no reply, called them and told them my problem, they asked me to send pictures, which i did, and they would call me back, a week goes by and i call them, they tell me the tech looked at the pictures and declared that they are they right lines for a 71 truck axle but they say thats not the axle i have! It came out of a 71, it bolted up, codes on axle say 71, wtf. I know these line arent right and i feel like they dont care if they are or not. I told him the code numbers on the axle and told them to vrify it them selves. They then procceded to tell me the tech was out of town and they would call me monday, i will probably have to call them again. Any advice on getting them to correct this?

Those are definatly the WRONG lines. You will have to be persistant with them. Better yet, return them and deal with a better company.
I bought a set of front lines from them and they didnt fit. I went back and forth with them about getting the right lines. They kept saying 'there the right ones'. They didnt really want to fix the situation. I sold the lines and bought some from fine lines. Funny thing is Fine's line didnt fit either but they bent over backwards to fix them and they did. The fine line guy said he has a lot of customers who bought In-Lines and were very unhappy with there customer service. |

It looks like the line on the passenger side is correct. The Drivers side is not the correct line. I just purchased the complete set from inline and as you can see from the picture, they fit perfectly. I would suggest you send them the pics of my lines along with yours to show the difference.

What they sent you is a 68 driver side and a 71 passenger side, the brake line 3 line T connector is different between 68 (is on the passenger axle tube) and 71 ( is by the center section)

OK, now I'm confused. My axle (12 Bolt in a 71) has the T bracket welded to the passenger side axle tube. About where lostwages two lines cross. Mine does not look like 72 Cheyennes. Hmmmmm, does anyone have a good picture of the brakes lines on there 12 bolt that might show the two different set ups? I'm curious to see both setups a little closer. I know my line secured to the pumkin cover with a little retainer dodad, but did not meet up with its brother and sister there. I was planning on ordering my inline lines in a few weeks and don't want to run into the same trouble lostwages is.

For a cost of about 10-20 bucks bend your own lines. I did and they look great. Keep the old lines as a reference to shape.

I agree with 72gmcshorty, if you want a low cost setup. Maybe you can keep the one line that's for a '71, and make the other. And damnit, no kinks! Nothing like almost finishing a line, and then for some dumb reason, pushing the limits and kinking it! Done that once on an old '78 F*rd Esquire wagon. (first car)

yeah axle lines changed in middle of the 67-72 run, some bolted bracket to cover bolt and some had welded bracket to axle tube
bending and flaring tubing is simple and inexpensive, i wish i knew why ppl fork over big bucks for something they can do for pennies, interesting,,. |

I bought the kit from In-Line tube because it is Stainless Steel. From what i could see, Stainless Steel is not readily available at your local parts house...or at least not around here...that is pre-flared. Thats the reason I went with a "pre-bent/pre-flared" kit from In-Line.

Here is the brake line set-up on my '72 w/aux helper springs (not sure if the lines are different for the aux springs or not).

I put lost wages lines on my axle tonight to see the difference in why the don't fit his 71 axle. They seem to be good for mine. This one is confusing me. I have the tab on my axle and he doesn't. I see a couple of you have lines that meet on the pumkin......is the pre 70 rearend more narrow??

Hey Fast,
Why do people fork over the "big bucks"? Well, pre-bent stainless lines look better, will last longer, and it's well worth it to me not to have to bend all those lines. Stainless steel doesn't rust like your typical steel brake line does. A pre-bent set of lines isn't that expensive anyway. Make sense?

what the hey? i bought this rear end from joes junk and it was suppose to be a 71? any one have any ideas on what rear axle i have? numbers should be on it? helpppppppppp!!!!!

I looked up your rearend #"s on your other post and they say 1971 3:73. Mabey it was an early or late production truck??? I have inline tube lines on my 1971 4x4 and they fit great. Good luck.

If I had had the "big bucks", I would have gotten pre-bent lines too. Of course, this along wth wiring is not one of my strong points. My front lines are new steel but they look like a**. None of my local stores had the right length so I made do and just added some loops to shorten them! LOL No kinks but it does ok. I DO hate that my new reman. master cyl. leaks/weeps from the cap though! grrrr
I hate brake lines, esp. bending them. In the future, I'll get pre bent or braided stainless flex lines.
