th350 output shaft length for slip yoke

I was having a vibration at about 45 so I was having the U joints checked and the drive shaft balanced. The shop said the problem was probably because the shaft was too short and the yolk was only going over the output shaft by about 2 inches.

Got the new shaft and tried to install but still only going onto shaft by a couple of inches.

How long is the output shaft of a th350, should the slip yoke be able slip all the way onto the shaft?

You can get a longer yoke. There is a place here in Springfield IL that has yokes up to 8 inches longer. 217 525 3750 Mullins. They will send it to you. They have them in all sizes.

Length of the output shaft depends on tailhousing length, but it should stick out about a 1/4" past the seal on the end of the tail housing.

Yes, the slip yoke should be able to bottom out on the shaft. Check the internal splines on the slip yoke for corrosion, any nicks or burrs, or even twisted splines. It doesn't take much to cause them to bind up. Ask your driveline shop if you can borrow a used slip yoke (we have boxes of discarded t350/pg/700r yokes at work) and see if it will bottom out on your tranny, chances are the problem lies in your slip yoke. Good luck.

I would have thought the drive shaft shop would have seen an issue with the slip yoke, I'll have to find a spare and check the shaft. My concern is it's something wrong with the output shaft.

Re: th350 output shaft length for slip yoke

Most of the fixtures in a driveline shop grab the slip yoke by the outside, so unless they had reason to believe there was a problem with the internal splines, chances are they wouldn't be checked or noticed. Easiest way to tell is by slipping it over a spare output shaft, usually a go or no-go kinda deal. It's possible your output shaft is thrashed, but if IIRC they are hardened while the factory slip yokes are not, ie. the output shaft usually wins when they fight . But I'd try a different slip yoke first, even if it does end up being the output shaft is junked, you'll need a new one anyway. If you can't find a good used one locally, let me know and I'll get ya hooked up.
