Hood hinges Powder coated
What would a person expect to pay to have a set of hinges degreased / blasted & powder coated? Trying to figure what is the best route. Buy a set from e-bay for 80-$100 already done or get mine done. All together thinking three sets. One chrome, two in black, but one set at a time.

Re: Hood hinges Powder coated
I had mine done. Gloss black but would look better if they had chrome springs on there. They never do a good job polishing down in the corners on the chrome ones they tend to have that yellow tint in all the spots they didn't get polished good enough so I would stay away from those ones myself.

Re: Hood hinges Powder coated
I don`t see how hinges can be done.I`ve been having parts powdercoated for years and they always told me no joined parts.

Re: Hood hinges Powder coated
Not true. I have powder coated a good number of hood hinges with great results! I charge $35 a hinge if they a clean. Cleaning and blast cab time is extra.

Now,it may be true that you can get away with it and I`m sure there must have been advancements in materials. But,saying what I said is untrue is a bogus statement because it is what I was told by industry leaders. Also, from using it for over 20 years I have seen the many ways it can fail and it`s not always the perfect and permanent coating many think it is.Don`t get me wrong,it`s great and very durable.I still use it,too.

Re: Hood hinges Powder coated
The hood hinges and springs on my 68 were powder coated before I bought it. They were done in a silver finish and look great. I would say that most of the pwoder coating businesses in my area would do them for $35.00 each

Re: Hood hinges Powder coated
if you were looking to just buy a set there is a guy on ebay by the name of powderkeg who powder coats hood springs. He guarantees his work and the product he sells. I've bought from him before and he's the real deal!

Re: Hood hinges Powder coated
K....wasn't saying what you said was not true...only that hood hinges CAN be powdercoated. That's it...not looking for a fight....my bad, I just edited out the "not true" so the wrong idea is not conveyed, sorry dude.

Re: Hood hinges Powder coated
It`s cool. Not looking for trouble, either.Wasn`t saying they couldn`t be done, just that I didn`t see how based on what I was told.I have seen moving parts be filled or bonded with coating and "pop" when moved. They must have been closer together.

Re: Hood hinges Powder coated
I had to "SCORE" the pivot area's of the hinge and then break them loose after they were done.
Powder coated warned me about this before and after the coating was done.
