Help left front tire loose
I have a 68' 4x4 with axles from a 86'. The other day I was driving my truck to work and I started hearing a clicking sound. When I got home I jacked the front right tire in the air and spin it and wiggle it nothing. I do the same to the left, no clicking, but the tire, wheel, hub and all were loose. I'm pretty new to this so any insite would be much appreciated.

It is probably a wheel bearing issue. If it is really that loose, they are probably damaged and need replaced.
It could be from improper adjustment, lack of maintenence (lube), or simple bearing failure....but since you said driver's side, it may just be that the last person to work on it didn't get the locking rings installed correctly. The drivers side naturally loosens itself if the lock is not working. The passenger's side can over tighten itself, which is just as bad. Do not drive it this way. It will get worse, destroying the lock-out hub and even the spindle itself, if it goes long enough. You are going to have to open it up and have a look. |

second that, just replace front spindles that were like that, we were going to replace them for a front spindle drop anyway, but noticed that issue while in there.. very yucky., truck drive much better now

GM still has the lock rings,FYI.I just did ball joints and discovered mine had the nubs worn off and replaced them.They were alot for what they are.This was on a`72 3/4t.The newer more common ones you can probably get at Napa or even GM for cheaper.
When you get it apart,clean up the bearings to inspect.If you see no pits,bluing,or hammering they should be good.The only other test is get them together and adjusted,if they still have play they need replaced.I`ve always been able to "see" wear/damage,though.Prolly just need adjustment.
