Inside hood release vs standard hood release.
Pyrotechnic asked me to tell him what on the cable operated hood release was different, so i took some pics and compared my 77 c20 burb (454 th400, ac, cruise, heavy duty 3/4 (no egr) listing anything that could affect front clip) that had the standard hood release, vs my bros old 78 c10 (350, th350, ac, cruise, light duty half ton w/ egr)
Here are some pics of the cable operated release. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() now for the standard hood release of the 77 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Any questions just ask, I hope you guys enjoy. The hood release on the cable actually releases to the passenger side, a standard release goes towards the back, and everything seems different.

Re: Inside hood release vs standard hood release.
Thank you very much for this! It really clears up a lot. I had no idea the differences were that drastic.
I have one more question. The outside only release has a safety catch. Does the inside release system also have this ? I noticed it has the lever outside which I figured would be the safety catch release, but I don't see provisions for it ?

Re: Inside hood release vs standard hood release.
isnt the L shaped thing the safety catch right? if so the inside system has it, because you have to hit the lever from the grille to release it all the way up. I think hats what your asking.

Re: Inside hood release vs standard hood release.
I second the thank you! I've been looking for the hardware to add the inside release at my local junk yards. Haven't found any yet. Now I see that I'll have to keep looking 'cause LMC, etc. sell only some of the parts to do the job.

Re: Inside hood release vs standard hood release.
I ended up pulling everything off a 77 that was going to the wrecking yard. I had to take the whole panal and brace from the radiator support and the plate and loop off the hood cuz it's all different . Still haven't put it on yet but I will, Eventually.

Re: Inside hood release vs standard hood release.
Ohhh I see how the inside release system works now. I had no idea the swap was this involved but I think it would be worth it if I could find the parts.
Though at this point I'm almost wondering if there's a way to make the current latch lockable somehow ? Maybe with a power door lock solenoid and a hidden emergency release cable ?

Re: Inside hood release vs standard hood release.
yeah, if you could get all the components you could, my bros is a 78 so i figure they are out there, but we own 15 of the 73-87s, only 2 80s trucks, and ive only seen an inside release on this 78 and the mid 80s trucks where its more common i believe.
