Drip rail rust
The drip rail on the a pillar of my 66 was bugging me. It was bubbling up some rust. I cut out the spot welds and took it off. I'd like to keep drip rails on the truck. I'm planning a two tone paint job, the drip rail will make for a cleaner transition. Anyone replace these? Hard to find replacements?
I was thinking of cutting off the rusty part, then welding it back on. It would be less work if I could just plug weld good ones back on. What do you think? Chopper |

Re: Drip rail rust
My roof is near perfect, it is the ones on the A-pillars that have some rust under them. My passenger side door lines up nice, the upper window frame area would blend in nicely with those drip rails shaved like Gulfcoast, Chris, has done. My drivers door needs serious tweaking to get it aligned enough so it would line up with the pillar. I'm just thinking it would take me less time to replace the rail rather than leave them off and get all the gaps and panels to line up. We do get a little rain around here, this will be a driver, so I'd like to keep the water out of the cab. It seems that they would help keep the water away from the door seals and out of the cab.

Re: Drip rail rust
I'm in the process of finding a replacement. I used a spot weld cutter to cut off the old one. If I can come up with a clean replacement I'll plug weld it to the pillar. If I can't find a replacement I will remove the passenger side to match. I'd rather keep them on and have a little leeway for alignment of the doors and cab.
I talked to a guy earlier in the week that says he might have some on some cabs he is parting out. Lets hope so. Chop |

Re: Drip rail rust
I haven't replaced one nor have I looked at it closely, but it seems to me that it shouldn't be very difficult to just make a new one from some say 18 ga. Just my .02
