Bumper Poll...Step or Sport?
My truck has the original Step Bumper in great shape that it was optioned with. More than likely if I tow, it will be with my Tahoe. Should I keep it or put a Sport Bumper on?

Re: Bumper Poll...Step or Sport?
Sport, Most step bumpers were dealer add on items after the trucks hit the dealership.
I saw your post below so I changed it to most. Since yours was an original factory item it makes it more interesting if the truck is going to be to restored to showroom stock condition. I'll say one thing though, that is a lot better looking than the step bumpers I have had on my trucks. Mine's not the ugliest rear bumper in existence but a close second at any rate. And it is no where as nice looking as yours and will get swapped for the chrome stock rear bumper with a hidden class III hitch in the rebuild when ever that is. Re: Bumper Poll...Step or Sport?
I'd let that thing hit the floor just long enough to install the stock chrome bumper (who the h*ll dubbed tthem 'sport' bumpers anyways? ) then scrap that fugly old thing.
If you wanna tow, you should use a real hitch anyways. |

Re: Bumper Poll...Step or Sport?
In your case a sport bumper. I have seen one outstanding GMC with an original chrome step bumper installed in 71. And I liked that as much as a any chrome sports bumper. Plus a step bumper you can actually step into the truck on it. Same with the tail gate I don't step on those either. Same with a sports bumper.

Re: Bumper Poll...Step or Sport?
If you are going to use your truck as a truck I think a step is the way to go, plus I think step bumpers look great on a 4x4. If your truck is retired as a truck and now its just a pretty showpiece, sport bumpers look ok on a 4x4 as long as you manly it up a little with a true hitch poking out underneath it...Course thats just my opinion and what the heck do I know

If you use the truck, steps are much more useful. For show, go sport/regular. She does look sweet with the new bumper though!!

Re: Bumper Poll...Step or Sport?
Sport, it really cleans up the look of the back end of the truck. You can always put the hidden hitch behind it so you can still tow.

Re: Bumper Poll...Step or Sport?
Thanks for the input guys. I put the chrome one on that I've had in my rafters for awhile today. It's a used original, but it cleans up pretty good. I'll definately hang on to the Step though, just in case.

Re: Bumper Poll...Step or Sport?
I like the sport bumper! I found one from a blazer I want to use on my 4x4. Has the original brackets but I was told the brackets are different. Do you know?
