Anyone know if a 250, or 292 head will fit on a 235? I've heard they will, but I want to be sure. Thanks

Don't know if this has been posted before, but I found a neat site for inline engine's. Unfortunately, the site does not have a lot of specifics, but it is pretty neat to see some heavily modified inlines. The site is http://www.inliners.org/. Check it out.

Will a 230/250/292 fit in my '55 2nd without a lot of mods? It started out with an inline 6 but it's long gone. I'm considering safety upgrades (power steering, power disc brakes) but want to keep the straight axle and would really like to have a straight 6, even if it's not the right vintage.

Nothing interchanges between the 235 and the 250. The 194/230/250/292 series was a totally new design using standards from the small block V8. You can take two V8 heads, cut them and weld them together to make a cross-flow head for the newer six, but you also have to drill new head bolt holes. The valve-train is from the big block.
As for dropping a 250 in an older truck, it is relatively easy. The block is narrower, so different mounts and perches are need. For those contact Tom Langdon at www.stoveboltengineco.com

Thanks, Fred, I appreciate the info. I've ordered the inline 6 performance book and have a few engines to choose from since most folks have discarded 'em in favor of V-8's. I have access to 700R4 and 2004R trannies, just need to pick one.

I was so close to doing a turbo'd and injected 292 with a muncie 4 speed in my truck. went a different direction though.
putting a 4.2L trailblazer 6 in my Dads 56 though. |

That would be one wicked (and expensive) powerplant. I doubt if the muncie would last very long, even the M22 is way over-rated. One of the newer 5 speeds would be nice. But it's only money.

good luck on trying to find any info a 4.2 swap. I would be very interested in how the 4,2 swap works. I couldn't find any info at all, Ended up selling my 4.2 for $350
