Re-wire harnesses. What's your preference?

I'm about to order a new harness for my truck. M&H has been on my list for a while. Painless seems to be a good option, too.

What have you used and what was your installation experience like? What would you do differently if you had it to do over?

Any other comments?

M&H or American Autowire all the way. Wire harnesses that are exactly like the originals. WES

Re: Re-wire harnesses. What's your preference?

Wes, thanks. You sell both, right? Which is your personal preference? I have A/C and will also be replacing that harness and the rear lighting harness. I would really like to have it be a "plug and play" system. I already have M&H for my front lighting and engine harnesses, so you can see why M&H gets a favorable nod.

Thoughts?

I used the M&H front light & the engine kit.

I'm a stone-cold novice and yet they worked well for me.

I went with M&H on my 72 and built my own for my 70. M&H is very simple to use just plug it in and go, looks just like factory!!!!

Re: Re-wire harnesses. What's your preference?

We sell both. They are essentualy the same. I first go to M&H and if they have the wire in stock that is what I get. If not then American Autowire it is. The reason I do not go to American Autowire first is my discounts are not verry good there, but with M&H I did the $5000.00 buy in so I get better deals. WES

Re: Re-wire harnesses. What's your preference?

I'm down to a wad of wires that are coming from the lower part of the steering column. There's four, maybe five, wires in that group. They are part of the large bundle of wiring that is attached to the fuse panel. I went ahead and cut the wires that go to the rear of the truck (lighting). If push comes to shove, I can always splice/solder/insulate the new to the old (10 years of USAF/Army Guard radio/radar repair). I would not be worried about the connection if I made it myself. Note: don't rely on crimp connectors to be a permanent repair/connection. Any "wiggle room" in an electrical connection is an invitation to failure. Make 'em tight and seal 'em up.

Anyway, anyone know what that specific bundle of wires is that I'm asking about? Oh, still gotta take the brake light switch and reverse light switch connectors loose (assuming the B.L. switch is part of the brake pedal.....having a brain fart, here). I know the horn wire is one of these, just don't know about the others or if that is part of the new harness that will require disassembly of the column, or just to remove it from the cab.

Taking a cab apart is like eating an elephant.....

The bundle of wires going back to the taillights is the intermediate taillight harness. Is that the one that you are talking about? WES

Re: Re-wire harnesses. What's your preference?

I ordered M&H engine & light harness Tuesday from Classic Heartbeat. Wes is a great person to work with, especially when I'm on travel in unknown parts of Nevada.. I had called M&H and had some issues with the GMC harnesses. Wes knows more than I do, so he does a better job explaining to them what's needed. Not to mention I didn't have much time to spend on the phone
Thanks again Wes
