Re: front bumper for sport bumper?
I guess you "could" but it would look rather odd. There is no cut out for the license plate pocket.

Re: front bumper for sport bumper?
Blazer, Burb, or truck "sport bumper" they are all the same. Bumpers can be bought, it's the brackets that are hard to find.

Re: front bumper for sport bumper?
which year bumper are you talking about? When I first read this i was thinking about the bumper that is on the front of my dads 85 but then when i looked at this i realized that the different years have differnt front bumpers. Again is the look your going for to keep from having a recessed plate? While i am a firm believer that anything is possible my question is how would you do the lighting on a front bumper as a rear?

Re: front bumper for sport bumper?
The bumpers are different just like the body style. The 73-80 had a rounded bumper, and 81-87 had a more square bumper.
Since dhughins truck is a 73-80 body style with a bed that has gas door I will assume his truck is 78-80.

Re: front bumper for sport bumper?
it's a 79 and i don't want a step bumper. i like the tucked up close look of the sport bumper. but the bumper's are around $130 and then you have to get the brackets for the same price.i can find tons of front bumpers in the junkyards, but no rear sport bumpers. so i was thinking i could use one of those fronts.

Re: front bumper for sport bumper?
I was going to guess 79. I understand exactly what your trying to accomplish. Someone needs to make a inexpensive alternative to replace those darn brackets.
You do know that you can use half of the Burb brackets don't ya?

Re: front bumper for sport bumper?
I think an 81 bumper with the bumper mounted turns might look good on the rear with the exhaust coming out of the signal wholes.
i'd have to see it though... might look like ****e |

Re: front bumper for sport bumper?
FWIW... I ran my sport bumper for a long time WITHOUT the center brackets. I stuck "dummy bolts" in too fill the holes in the bumper- some will say it was "halfa$$"... but noone never noticed. Here are a couple of pics of bumpers that I had the bolts installed and yes these are already sold to a couple of board members.
Thanks, Anthony

Re: front bumper for sport bumper?
Guys... Check Auto Body Panels for the brackets. I called them today to see if they had some other parts for my truck and I also intend to replace the roll pan the previous owner put on. The guy I talked to said they have the brackets for less than $60 for both sides. Unless he's looking at the wrong thing, this is much better than LMC. The Cincinnati number for ABP is 513-771-2886 but I know they have other locations.
If I can help with picking them up for people and shipping them for cost, I will. I'm only 10 miles from the store in Cincy. Last edited by bwilder10h; 08-20-2008 at 03:29 PM. |

Re: front bumper for sport bumper?
Did you tell them it was for a factory bumper and not a step bumper on a 81-87 pickup? The 73-80 versions are $60 per side.

Re: front bumper for sport bumper?
I told the guy it was for an 85 fleetside, but that doesn't mean anything anymore. I'll find out tomorrow when I go down there...

Re: front bumper for sport bumper?
He probably thought you were talking about the step bumper. 90% of the trucks left the assemebly line without bumpers on them and the dealership put the step bumpers on it.

Re: front bumper for sport bumper?
You were right Chris. Now I'm back to square one needing brackets... I'll have a bumper tomorrow with no way to mount it...
