How to change from points to HEI ?
Finally got the 402 in the '67. I need to change the wiring from the original points distributer to the HEI out of the '72 chevelle. I also have a kill switch that grounded the negative side of the coil. I think that would go to the tach terminal on the HEI but not sure. Any info would be a help.

As for wiring the distributor, all you need to do is give it a full 12V, hot on start and run. Use a fresh 12ga or bigger wire. I don't think grounding the tach port would ground out the coil, though. Maybe it would, but it is just a tach connection, after all.

Where's the best place to hook that wire to? I just noticed that on my truck, whoever added the HEI, spliced the power wire into the old resistor wire. That's a no-no but I've been driving it this way for almost 5 years now with no problems.

The best/easiest place to hook the HEI power wire ,is to Ign unfused in the fuse box. Then just clip out the yellow wire to the soleniod,& the white resistor wire. As already posted ,use a 10 or 12 guage wire,you can cut a lenght of HEI feed wire from a boneyard special,& use a rubber grommet through the firewall. Some of the guys have also opted to use an inline fuse(I cant say on the size,mine is not fused). good luck......69longhorn.

Longhorn, I see the yellow wire. Where does the white resistor wire come from and what does it do? Thanks for the replies.

The white was the old coil positive wire.
The grounding cut off switch is something you are unable to do on an HEI. No point in it anyways. But, if you need a kill switch, just wire the hot lead from the IGN UNFUSED, to your cut off swith, then out to your HEI. ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350.
