Unidentified object
I went to replace this Thingamajig shown in my hand (SEE PIC)and the guy at the parts store said that I should have one of those already fitted to the booster.."I forgot what the heck he called it" and not to bother replaceing the one shown in my hand and that I should remove it.
My questions are... What is it? What does it do? Do I really have two of the same thing doing the same job? Can I start over, and remove both and fit the correct replacement?

Re: Unidentified object
you already have the check valve on the booster (the other end of the hose is hooked to it) - I don't know if what you are holding is just an inline check valve or not but if it is, you don't need two... maybe the one on the booster was bad?

Re: Unidentified object
It looks to me like the one that is in-line is in the reverse position of the one in the booster. Can you separate them from the hoses, then plug the in-line one into the booster?? If so, and it is a good check valve, the hoses look like they would connect from the base of the intake to the booster and save you an elbow in the hose. Grammar is an issue.....

OK! if thats the case what would a check valve in the booster look like? Anyone got any pics? Quote:
Not sure if I can pull that piece out of the Booster, i'll give it a go. Neither hose is long enough to go from Booster to Carb, would need a new peice.

Re: Unidentified object
Well, it should be a one way check valve used to keep trash from getting in the booster. I don't think the thing attached to the booster is one. Just the one in your hand.
I forgot what it was called. |

Re: Unidentified object
forgot what it was called.[/QUOTE] me too
they were installed on gm on or about 1978 up in Canada to prevent trash from entering the brake booster. the hose from that filter connects to manifold vac port at the back of a gm carb or a intake port just back of the carb. the truck will work as normal with or without the filter in the brake booster vac line.

Re: Unidentified object
you can pull that out of the booster. I have.. No problems. You might want someone else to chim in about pulling that out. I don't see a problem with that.

Re: Unidentified object
Well I suppose that about solves it, now I know what it is and what it does, I may still get a replacement and get rid of the inline one to tidy it up.

Re: Unidentified object
GM installed that "filter" inline to prevent gasoline vapors from deteriorating the rubber diaphram in the booster. I put them in all my trucks
some booster rebuilders send them with the unit in the box Last edited by kwmech; 09-02-2008 at 03:52 PM. |

Re: Unidentified object
It's a filter as said above ^^^^ NAPA PART #675-5136 Balkamp part, They do help with the rubber deterioration in the booster though.
