Re: What wiring harness to use?
Are you going to try to splice an aftermarket 67-72 harness into a factory 5.3 harness? Or are you looking for something that will take care of everything including your engine swap? I don't really have an answer, but the extra detail might help someone else jump in.

Re: What wiring harness to use?
I already have the engine wiring harness down to a 4 wire plug and play... Im talking about a full headlight to taillight harness such as http://www.jegs.com/i/Painless/764/10206/10002/-1

Re: What wiring harness to use?
I recomend the EZ wiring 18 circuit universal harness. For half the price of a Painless. It does not use a bulk head connector thru the firewall you can weld that hole and you can hide all your wiring for a clean look. I have done this many times before with great results.

Re: What wiring harness to use?
That ez harness looks great! i thought that $400 was ridiculous for a harness... ive never wired a truck before, do you just cut off the stock wires at the connectors and splice into the new harness or???

Re: What wiring harness to use?
I like the M and H but the catalog sucks IMO. I can't find what I want (it's just taking forever to find it and i'm impatient), I guess it's better to just contact them and tell them what you're looking for.

Re: What wiring harness to use?
I don't know about the other manufacturers, but in my opinion Painless is a cheep wiring job. Put together with butt connectors. I prefer to make my own starting with a decent factory harness, and using factory style connectors, and solder and shrink wrap. I have found butt connectors create problems in time, and have to fix many Hot Rods with wiring problems do to high resistance from bad contacts.

On the dash harness it is listed with guages and without guages? How do you tell which one is which?

Re: What wiring harness to use?
I couldn't find a kit for blazers on the american auto wire site. Do you know the part number or did you use a fullsize truck harness and shorten the tail light wires

Get a painless. It cost more but it's worth it. I hate my ez wire.

Re: What wiring harness to use?
Did a painless last summer in my 69 K5 and I'll say it may seem expensive but in the long long run worth every penny, I say that because a bought an AAW for my jeep and I can say that the AAW kit is not as complete as the painless and the diagrams aren't as good either. To each his own in the end though.

Curious if this is the Painless wiring harness people have used? Is $520 worth it? I have soo many crossed up wires, bare hanging wires, loose ends under my dash I feel like I need to take control of this mess. Plus my fuse box is pretty much rusted over. |
