AOL question for you suspension guys

So I've picked up all the stuff to start bagging my truck and I'm going with and air over leaf setup.

I picked up the firestone sport rite kit, but it's for a different model than what is specified for my '81. The 73-87 kit actually mounts over the axle. I didn't go with that because I'm also doing a flip kit.

Anyways, to get to me question...

Because of the position the shocks mount I obviously cannot mount both bags directly across from each other without modification to the shock mount and or position. What I want to know is if I could mount one bag in front of the axle and the other behind. I wouldn't see this being a problem, just thought I'd be safe and ask ahead of time if anyone thought of any issues about that before I go drilling my frame.

Thanks guys

I mounted my 'home-made' AOL set-up above the axle because of the staggered shocks. The only other one I've ever looked @ closely was Kens (N2TRUX). They re-mounted his shocks to allow mounting both sleeved bags forward of the rear housing tubes.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

I would imagine getting the heights equalized might be problematic since the frame to leaf dimensions are different if you stagger the bag set-up on each side of the rear housing.

Putting them over the rear will work but will require more room for tapered/sleeve type bag since they're taller than a dbl convoluted bag.

Mine are mounted similar to this . . .....

Re: AOL question for you suspension guys

Ok, well... other than the possibility of different heights and weight distributions (possibly) there aren't any safety issues?

Hey, N2TRUX, do you think you could post pics of the other side of your truck? How did you relocate the shock?

He doesn't have any on file..... I already asked when I was trying to determine how I was going to do mine.

The shop that did his truck basically 'mirror imaged' the driver side as far as the frame mount & cut the rear end mount off & flipped it to the back.

Re: AOL question for you suspension guys

Nice work slammed1. The guys at Stoked Out Specialties built my set up. Unless they are building a custom frame they always use this method for a notch. It looks great and has no corners where stress cracks can start.
