front swaybar stands
I'm about to install my front swaybar (1-1/4" ). Do I need to get swaybar stands (I'd probably get the "lowered" stands from ECE). The reason I ask is on my GMC that I had, I bolted the bar directly to the frame (cause I didn't know there even was stands at the time....many years ago). However, on the GMC it worked just fine, so why do I really need the stands?

You can actually install a sway bar without using sway bar brackets, but I think it will depend on how low your truck is. If it's at stock height, then I would use the standard bracket, otherwise lowered brackets/no brackets, would probably put your suspension in a bind.
Since your truck is lowered, I think you would be okay to bolt them directly to the frame and not worry about the brackets. It will pull the bar that much more off the ground... and clearance is a good thing! Good luck with the install!

I got 2 1/2 drop spindles on our project and I got all the sway bar brackets, should I use the stands also w stock height springs? I do need one of those
1 1/4 bars though seeing I dont have a swaybar itself!! thanks guys

I got the kit from ece brackets , bushings ,bolts everything except the bar . I got that at junk yard for about ten bucks . complete set was about 64.00.Truck is 68 gmc everything on the truck is stock i used the lowered brackets.Every thing worked great about an hour to install.

That is right if the drop is with coils. Drop spindles should have the sway bar mount at the stock location right?

4" drops would be spindles & springs (or bags) & would be where I would start considering the use of the shorter stands (or reversing the mounting position using the stock stands).

IIRC for a mild drop you can flip the bar upside-down and bolt it to the frame. I seem to recall having done this on my '67 many years ago.

I've seen guys install the bar on the inside of original brackets on mild drops vs. purchasing new shorter brackets.
