How rare ?
While at an estate sale Saturday buying a '71 C-10 CST, I also was shown a '72 C-10 with factory roof mounted clearance lights like the 3/4 and 1 tons had ( sheet metal of roof has formed mounds where each light is mounted). The truck is clean and has an OK cheap black paint job . How rare was this option and is the truck worth $3000 as a 350/TH350 with no air but otherwise in good shape ?
Here are pics of the truck I bought, but no pics of the '72 though.Sorry for the crappy cell pics. Rick

Re: How rare ?
There are no actual production numbers for options, nor option packages, some rough %'s, but that just stirs up the mud in the mud puddle.
The 71 is actually a cheyenne, not a CST. It was not a hard to find package. I'm not saying it is common, just a far cry from uncommon. The 72 with clearance lights would be fairly uncommon, however, not unheard of. It isn't some freak of GM nature, it was avalible, and installed, in quite a few C/10 trucks, and even in the short wheel base models. |

Re: How rare ?
Yep, clearance lights were a simple option.
I talked to another school bus driver today, who has his one-owner '69 stepside Chevy, original paint and untouched 6-cylinder. He says the clutch is starting to get weak after 200K+ miles. Says he has had to replace the A/C compressor once and that the truck is still clean although the paint is weak. Supposed to have Power Brakes and factory cruise, too! In order for me to see it, which he invited me to do, I gotta drive about 200 miles round-trip. So, gotta plan that stop when the wife and I go on a mini-vacation the end of October. I gotta get a picture of the SPID on that one. I'm gonna guess 250 6-cylinder, standard 3-gear, PS, PB, A/C and cruise control. Gotta be an unusual combo, for sure. It'll be interesting to see what the trim level is...Custom? It's amazing what you learn if you just listen to others......

Re: How rare ?
Ahh! Thanks for the info ! I was wondering if I should go back and get the '72 to hold on to if it was a good deal. I was just posting pics of the '71 I got while I was there. I also bought a '78 Sierra Grande that drove home for $200 !
