72 throttle cable shortening

I need to shorten my throttle cable about 3-4". Anyone elsedone this? If so, How?

I have not shortened any cables but is there any reason you can't use a shorter cable (like one from a 4x4)?

X2 on the shorter cable. But you could cut the gas pedal end of the cable, then cut the cable housing to length and use a couple of cable stops. I'd use a dremel or something similar for the cutting.
