Gave ECE a call........

I don't spend alot of time complaining about my truck here on the board, but I really just don't like the stance of my truck. I love the way the front sits, but I think it still sits too high in the rear. Everyone I talk to tells me the truck looks great and to leave it alone, but I think they're just being nice.

Well, I gave ECE a call and ordered a set of 5" rear drop springs and a Super track bar kit. I'm hoping to acheive the look I've been hoping for.

Here's how it looks in the current 3.5/4 drop.

The new stuff should be here Friday. I will post photos of the new stance after I get everything installed.

Re: Gave ECE a call........

Your truck is great and I think you will be happy with what your ordered. I love the stance of my stepside after i did the 3.5/5 drop from ECE. I have 275/60/15 on the back and 245/60/15 on the front and it looks perfect to me and did lower the rear just right. Their parts are quality and easy to install too.

Hope this picture helps.

Re: Gave ECE a call........

Why didn't you just order their drop blocks and keep your springs?. I've heard it's better (can't remember why) to run a 4" rear spring and then a drop block. Board member Scoti has posted about this in the suspension forum. Sweet truck by the way!

Re: Gave ECE a call........

I have ECE 4" springs on mine and I'm thinking I will need at least another inch of drop block to set it where I want it. I still don't have the final wheel/tire package installed yet to tell for sure. The adjustable track bar is a must. Even with just the 4" springs the stock bar is pushing the rear off to the right side by 1 1/2" and is nearly horizonal.

The down side to dropped springs is that they are 4" ect. lower compared to new stock springs. When you replace old sagging springs you don't get the drop you thought you were getting. My truck went down about 2" with the 4" springs. I would hate to invest in 5" springs and not see much difference. With a 1" drop block it will go down 1", period.

I'm with Orange. It would be very hard to make your truck look bad!

I had the same issue with my stepside. it seemed like it didn't drop as much as I wanted it to even with 5" drop springs. Is the stepside bed lighter? metal to wood difference in weight? I don't know.

but I have 5" springs and 2" blocks on the back........ and I still haven't needed to C notch yet.

anyway, not to hijack. can you post pics after your done, I can't wait to see that beast closer to the Earth!

I agree with Doug, your truck will be killer no matter what you decide to do. If it was my truck, I would want the back lower than it currently is. I find it difficult to determine the correct look, but after you've made up your mind, it's better to go with that decision.

Best of luck!

I agree i have seen your truck . It dose look awful i could maybe give you 2500 for it. Just kidding . If your truck is the one with the grey custom bench seat that was at the shades this year it looks great. best looking seat i have seen in these trucks . Who did the seat?

Matt,

Didn't think about it till I saw the post, even though I read
it over on TNCTC. Some of these Super Track bar kits will
hit if you use all springs. I have heard some say you need
a 1" block just to keep everything from binding. (Hope not)

Personally, I like the way it looks right now. It does gove more of an old school hot rod vibe over a lowrider vibe... but beauty is all in the eye of the beer holder.

Re: Gave ECE a call........

Hey fellas, thanks for all the compliments and remarks. I'll try to answer everyones questions here.

I didn't want to use blocks. ECE doesn't sell them or recommend them. Also, the cheapest I've found blocks are $60, which is more than half the price of new springs. ECE is great to work with. The guy I spoke was very nice and was willing to do whatever he could to save me some $$$ I got free shipping which would've been $20 and the super track bar kit comes with new U-bolts which I had already bought for mine, so he took them out of the kit and saved me another $25.

dfosh, Wayne's Auto Trim in Morristown did my seat. He had the company that cut the foam save the profile for him so if anyone else wanted a seat done similar, he would have it ready to make.

LUV, I hope there isn't any binding. I don't know what other comanies are having problems with, but everyone I've talked to that used the ECE Super track bar havn't had any problems.

ECE is such a great company, and their customer service is outstanding! I'm glad to hear that they were able to save you some on shipping/parts.

I haven't heard of the binding issue with ECE's SuperTrac bar... curious about that one.

Re: Gave ECE a call........

The only problems that I'm aware of with the ECE super track bar is when it's combined with a c-notch. Their bar is placed on the back of the trailing arm causing it to hit the frame before your axle bottoms out in the notch. Other long track bars I've seen have been mounted on the inward side of the trailing arm. When mounted this way the axle can move on up in your notch without any problems. Since you're not running a notch you'll have no problems. Looking forward to seeing it come together Matt!

Re: Gave ECE a call........

With a 5" drop in the rear how much travel do you have before hitting the bump stops? Also when you use the 1" drop springs in the front with the spindle is it hard to align?

I have the 1'' springs and 2.5 drop spindles, and there was no problem aligning it.
