6 cylinder tach
Hello all. I recently was lucky enough to buy a 72 chevy tach dash along with a gmc fiberglass console, both for $50. Yes,$50. Okay, yeah, well the dash isnt perfect by any means, the bezel is not usable and the circuit board is
trash I think. The pcb is separating and a couple of circuits are broken. I want to install this dash into my 67 truck so I have a bezel. My question is this, my truck has a 292 inline engine. Can this tach be reworked to run on my engine? Truck has a 4:11 rear gear and a 3 speed trans so a tach would ideal. My computer will not let me run a program for the digi cam we have so no pics, yet. Im sure the tach is from a V8 truck. Thanks for any advice to my questions. Oh, yeah, the console is in remarkably good shape.Could use a good cleaning, maybe a coat of paint. One bolt hole is broken but bad at all, a large washer can fix that. Again thanks for any help. Muley |

Re: 6 cylinder tach
I know the tach are stamped "8 cyl" on the back so something is different... really haven't seen any "6 cyl" though... Maybe someone will trade?

Re: 6 cylinder tach
The V8 tach will not work correctly on the 292 it will read very slow, both were marked either 6cyl or V8 and had part numbers on the back.. they may or may not be legible anymore..
FYI...The part number for a 6 cylinder tach is #6468321 .. V8 tach is #6468226.. It is possible to make a V8 tach work on a 6 tach if you are good with or know of someone good with electronics, A couple of components need to be changed in order to make it work correctly |

Re: 6 cylinder tach
Thanks for all the replies.I would be willing to trade for 6 cylinder tach but I want to make sure this one is working properly.Im sure in some 67-72 trucks
with an inline engine had a tach, maybe bigger trucks 3/4 ton up.My brother said he knew of a guy that could recalibrate the tach but he lives in Canada. Hopefully before too much longer I can get a digi cam that is nice to my old computer. By the way,chevy29267truck,I live in the small town of Rockwood, about 50 miles west of Knoxville. If you move to Tennessee, Welcome Yall. Thanks again for all replies. Muley |

Re: 6 cylinder tach
Due to it`s rarity, the 6cyl tachs are higher demand. But,I guess there could be someone out there that would be looking for a trade.
