rear susp ?
why do I have half a leaf spring and trailing arms with coils? Is this some kind of helper spring?

it looks a whole lot like a helper to me...
seeing as how thick the 2 leafs are and are a good 3 inches away if its factory or not i do not know.

...It might have had a camper on it at one time,I think those where a "dealer-option"......

That set-up was an available option, know as "auxillary overload springs". I have several trucks, both 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton, with this factory/dealer installed option.

Depending on the drop and the geometry of the modifications, they will probably need to be removed, especially if you do a "C" notch.

yeah, hell if you have got some pretty good bumps and such around your area ide hack them off befor that just for the second jolt you get when they hit.
