Wheels and tires 76 Cheyenne 4x4
Looking to upgrade and would like some help. First my truck is elsewhere being painted yada. What is the necessary frt wheel hub size for the 4x4?
I've been thinking about something different for wheels. I want to go with AT tires and no more than 33". 31" on now. I'm having problems finding wheels though. I don't mind the 16" 6 lug wheels on it but there doesn't seem to be the same variety of wheels for that esp with those front hubs. I wonder about 18" wheels or ??? Anyone got any ideas for some wheels and tires for it. It's black and has a 400SB with auto transmission. Rear end is ??? Does have that smooth ride option. I don't want a lot of noise and I don't get offroad much. Looking forward to some of yall's ideas. |

It is hard to say what would look good without a picture of you're truck.
Personally I wouldn't go with anything larger than a 15" w/ 33's on a half ton 4x4, but that's just me. |

I thought it had 16"s on it. It's at the painters (again). If it comes with 15" then I'll stay with that. And I don't mind staying with 31" tires. I like the look of 35s on the back but I'm not going to lift it to put that on the front. So 33" is fine, too. 295/75/15 are 32.4 inches tall and 295/65/16 are 33.4 inches tall. Do you think the 16s are too tall? Did the truck come with 16s or 15s? Thanks a lot. This is the stuff I need to hear. I'm definitely mostly a newbie with these trucks. |

Most 3rd generation half ton 4x4 trucks came with 15" wheels,(standard model came with H78-15's in 1976). There was a 6 lug 16" option but very few took advantage of it. I had two 1977 Chevy 4x4's at the same time and the short/step had 5 lugs while the Suburban had 6 lug. Go Figure! That said, most all the time I've had K10's, I ran the factory 15x8 wheel and 33/12.50-15 BF Goodrich tires. Never had any problems with that combination with no lift or trimming. I tried a set of 15x10 Jackman wheels once but, they had front wheel clearance issues. The standard 3/4 ton 4x4 came with 8.75x16.5 tires in 76 but, larger tubeless and tubed and 16" tires/wheels were available. You can see my 1980 K10,(don't let the sheetmetal fool you!),with it's 33's and my 86 with 255/85-16's in the "Plow Truck" thread over in General Discussion. Re: Wheels and tires 76 Cheyenne 4x4
I have 31s on with 16" wheels. It has the 6 lug pattern though so I think I'll stay with that. Supposedly the old warn hubs are about 1/4" bigger than the new hub assemblies. Is that correct? Is there an inexpensive way to make them 8 lug and fit the newer wheels? Or even 6 lug and fit new wheels?
I've been told you can machine the new wheels to fit over the old warn hubs but I've never done that or talked with anyone I know who has. Is that correct? Thanks again and keep them coming, please. Last edited by jobberone; 11-08-2008 at 10:29 AM. |

I think 15" rims and 33"s would look awesome on it.
