rearend ratio on a 1976 C10

I have a 76 step side that originally came with a 350 and 3 speed manual. I just went to check the rearend ratio and after turning the wheel one complete turn, the driveshaft only turned 1.75 times. Am I doing something wrong or do I have a 1.75:1 gear ratio in the rearend? Never heard of such a ratio.

Re: rearend ratio on a 1976 C10

If you hold one tire still & spin the other, you have to take your number X 2 because of the spider gears.

1.75
X 2
3.50

I think the ratio offered for that year closest to your count was 3.73, so I'd bet your count is actually a "hair over" 1.75

And, welcome to the board!

Re: rearend ratio on a 1976 C10

pull the cover off (drain oil) look at the numbers on the ring gear... 41:11 is 41 divided by 11 = 3.727272 or 3.73

raplace seal and oil and you have a 100% accurate idea and a serviced rear diff...

Re: rearend ratio on a 1976 C10

That sounds right...my '76 C10 with 350/3 speed came with a 3.42 gear set.

I was wondering what mine is, I just didn't want to do that just yet, too many other leaks to fix first.

If you do that you can also pull your axles and put new seals in the end of them, then it snowballs with brakes, bearings and so on...
