Glove Box Light in Factory AC Truck?

The consensus here is that glove box lights are not factory on our trucks. On non air conditioned trucks they are easy to add, but has anyone added a glove box light to a factory air conditioned truck? The reason I ask is I think the glove box light would interfere with the glove box itself and the AC ducts behind it.

i have sold over 1000 of the glove box lights on here, and never ever had any complaints in that department

This post has a two part question I think??? a) were glove box lights an factory option for our trucks, b) any issues installing on a truck with ac? I don't know but those wiser than I (which is most of you) will have the correct answer.

Re: Glove Box Light in Factory AC Truck?

I can't see any difference in the mounting of the glovebox lite in either air or no air trucks. The area where the lite goes is the same. you can work the wire thru the edge of the glove box mounting in either case.

Re: Glove Box Light in Factory AC Truck?

How about this. I added a light to my truck when it was non-AC. Then I converted it to AC with all factory parts except for the aftermarket AC glove box liner. The light still fits and works.

FWIW, Longhorn Man doesn't conceal where he gets his lights from that he sells. Just about all full sized GMs in the bone yard from about the mid 70s through the 80s has one you can acquire the next time you are there.

Re: Glove Box Light in Factory AC Truck?

yep, and no, there was no option for a glove box light in 67 - 72 trucks, c or k designations.
They were avalible as a dealer installed option, or over the GM parts counter, but never a factory installed SPID listed option for regular buyers

Re: Glove Box Light in Factory AC Truck?

My glove box light is about 1-3/4" deep, but my glove box will allow only about half of that. I probably need a new glove box...

While I'm throwing out dumb questions, my truck has never had a glove box light because there is no paint worn on the glove box door from a button, so what is the ring in the glove box hole?

Re: Glove Box Light in Factory AC Truck?

That would be for the glovebox light. At least that is what mine looks like, and I have a light.

Re: Glove Box Light in Factory AC Truck?

was that some kind of special order... like army/air force rig?
Like I said above, it was never listed in any of the books, GM nor restoration/research type book.
There were a lot of options avalible for the special buyer that was not avalible to the average joe.

Re: Glove Box Light in Factory AC Truck?

With the special paint option I am leaning towards LHM's explanation. It's a special order truck. Special order back then meant a lot more than it means when ordering today.

Re: Glove Box Light in Factory AC Truck?

Chevy4Life, can you post the left side of that SPID sticker too?

That has got to be rare to see one in person with a 9916 code on it after all these years!

I looked in my 1969 Chevrolet Dealer book and it lists:
Lights: Glove Compartment .. 9916 ... MSRP $2.65
That code is listed for Passenger cars though, not for the trucks.

The Dealer book says that special ordered options can delay the completion of your truck until the items are procured as they are not normally stocked options, to that effect anyways. Yeah it's some kind of special order, maybe a fleet vehicle.

Re: Glove Box Light in Factory AC Truck?

That's like the code you would typically find on a fleet vehicle. I have one that lists "front axle positract" that has a similar number. There isn't a common 3 digit RPO code for the option though. Pretty neat find, would also love to see the rest of that SPID.

Here is the only shot of the left side I have and a shot of the light. It ran all the way to the fuse box. So, were these the same lights used in the cars of that era?

Yeah I've pulled several from GM cars over the years and I've seen several different styles. I don't know if I have ran across this style or not. Just wondering what year car lights would be "correct" for our trucks. If it's still there next time I go I'll snap some better shots of the spid.

Re: Glove Box Light in Factory AC Truck?

i've seen 3 styles, and no continuity in what was in what.
The smaller black one was most common.
I mostly saw the gray ones in the later models
I came across some of the larger ones but in black... pretty uncommon.

here is the larger black style, as seen in my longhorn. Photo taken a few years ago... like 05 or 06.

And the more typical small black ones;
