first post, not really a WIW, but is it worth it?
the WIW section moves kinda slow, so Im looking for some opinions kinda quick so I can make my move...Now the details
Ive been looking for a 67-72 truck and this one is about right at the top of my budget to start a build, but it seems a pretty decent starting place. So here's the ad: Quote:

And just from eyeballing, off the top of my head, here's what I believe needs to be fixed: *new hood (stock has a dent right in the top-middle) *new bumper (original is rusted) *grill trim (not there) *cab trim ( not there) *cab floor (rusted through, about the size of a foot, where your left foot would go if it was flat on the floor) *interior door panels (none there) *gas pedal (not there) *speedometer (cable needs replaced maybe?) * rear bumper (original is rusted) *heater core (original is busted) and some other odds and ends im sure, but the engine bay, cab corners, doors and fenders are pretty solid. Tailgate is dented a little, and the bed needs minor patching but it's pretty solid also. Looks like it may have been partially restored a while back and never finished. Welcome to the board... this whats it worth is one of the accepted ones being that you are buying it.
You'll get responses that cover the entire spectrum. To get an honest feel, you need to price others in YOUR area. That would be gone by now if it was here. |

pickins are slim sometimes, and prices can be rediculous for junk. The other truck I looked at today was total crap and he wanted $1500. If you took the motor out it wouldve looked like junkyard material.
And another question...The bed has like a "foot hole" (like a place you would step) on each side of the bed, is that normal? |

ummm i paid 1700 for mine and it was sitting in primer and need alot more work then that one

the foot hole... does it have an insert in there?
There was a dealer installed option... or an over the counter accesory for this. Not real common, but not all that uncommon. just another hole or two to weld up. |

there's an insert, you can see it in the pic, and its on both sides. like on this truck

What engine? 307 327 396 or 6 banger?
if it runs and drives decent then $1700 isn't to bad of a price. All depends on what you want to do. It's gonna have 4 drum brakes and manual steering and brakes more than likely. I like 67-68 nose jobs so it's up to your wishes..... Just make sure you get your money's worth and like the platform your starting with (short bed vs long bed, 2WD vs 4WD, running vs not etc...)

$1,700 is more than a fair price for what looks to be a nice truck for VA.
HOWEVER, look UNDER IT, look at the door bottoms, pull back the windshield rubber inside the cab at the top (you can get it started with a small screwdriver, get your fingers in, and work your way across the cab,) look under the drip rails for rust pushing though, look for bondo covered rust, etc... I'm originally from the north and my dad and I have been burned on trucks we thought looked good but turned out to be bondoed over rust buckets.

The only spot of bondo i found was on the P rear bed behind the well about the size of an orange, but it looked like solid unrusted metal behind it, possibly a bad patch job...

looks great from the picture. IMO the Cab itself will be the biggest issue look at it over and over.

As been said...if it fits your bill...if it has minimul rust...and has the bones that you want in a truck...then go for it. $1700 seems fair. At least you can drive it while you begin putting your personality to it.
Also a GREAT BIG and Should you decide to become a site Support for $25...you will save that in buying new and used parts off the forum. Plus the truck advice is fee.

Funny how that works huh? New cars/trucks depriciate faster than you can make a payment. Older cars/trucks bought for around 5K don't really lose their value, and if you are lucky, even appreciate.

From what I have seen truck prices have been coming down. People are looking to unload their projects so they can pay their bills. It is a buyer's market. Offer what you want to pay, if you don't get it, there will be more of these trucks right around the corner.

I will go against the grain here. In the south where trucks with minor rust are more abundant, that would not be worth 1700.00. Regardless take a close look at that area where you see the bubbles. Look the entire truck over carefully inside and out. Unless you are capable of doing the rust repair, I would pass on it for a cleaner cab.

despite all thats wrong with it, its actually the cleanest truck I've seen yet (thats in my price range) The truck will be more of a daily/weekend beat around, than a restoration project....

Sounds like an ok truck for the price, buy it. As for the cab rust, are you talkng about the seam at the rear of the top? It doesn't sound too bad and that's just a 2-layer piece. Even if it's at the drip rail, the price isn't too bad.
