Question

Hey everybody!

I`m planning to start on my 79 C-10 pickup prosject soon. And i just bought me a 90 C1500 pickup as well, i shall be using that as a donor car. I`m taking the motor and transmisson from that car.

But my question is: Can i use the frame? Is it the same? What is the difference in those to?

Re: Question

Welcome to the board.
Before I "step in it".....since I see you are from Norway. Are these trucks "Normal"? Meaning, are they of American origin? Many foreign encarnations of "Chevy" stuff can vary greatly.
In America there was a change of body styles between 1987 and 1988, but that was pick-up trucks only. The Blazers and Suburbans retained the older bodys until 1992 (I think) So your question falls right in the middle of those cross-over years. If the trucks you have were originally American they are different. If they were built for (or in) another country, they could be the same.....

Do they look similar on the outside?

Re: Question

The body style is different yes. The 90 C1500 is the same body style as my brother has on his pickup, see picture.

So i guess it isn`t the same? Do you know if i could use some of the suspension parts?

Re: Question

No, you can't use the frame or the suspension. Ok, let me say that it's not a direct swap over. Anything can be done with skills, and the right tools.

The motor should be a 5.7 V8 or 4.3 v6 and either one will be throttle body injected(TBI). Transmission will be a 700r4. Those will swap over just fine, but you will need to retain the wiring and computer if you plan to run the TBI. You will also need an electric fuel pump to supply the TBI.

Re: Question

Thanks for the answers! I`ll be taking the motor and transmisson then. Yes it`s the v8 with the 700r4.

You will need to mod the transmission crossmember, or build a new one. I would get the drive shaft too. You might have to have a new one built, and you can use the yoke from the later model to ensure you have to correct fit.
