What should I do to my truck with 1800 bucks..

Well, I sold my fourwheeler today..Have 1800 bucks...Id like to put a good portion into my truck...what should i do.

Id like to get wheels tires new bumpers all around...pull rest of trim off..weld up holes cover with body filler pop filll up pop out all dents and dings..sand primer get new mirrors.maybe get some bump in it (least of problems)...needs new seals..relocate gastank to underbed somewhere and best of all FIX ALL MY INCAB RUST!

about that....I bought soem carpet awhile back would really like to put that down, but not goin to until my rust is all fixed..im not sure whats the best way to go around this...I see you can buy patch pannels? I dont really know what im doin..gotta good neighbor that used to weld pipe lines..ill prolly have him do the welding parts if i can and patch my trim holes for me ima try'n pay him a lil boot...but where can i buy these pannels at or should i steer away from them? Ive got rust under where the door closes (?rocker pannels)? both cab corners (passenger side patched with aluminum pop rivits and silicone) and a lil bitty spot of rust where your heel would go while you were pushing the gas pedal.......is there anyplace i could take it to and have them do it all for not a whole lot of money, or do yall recommend doing it myself..thanks! john!

Re: What should I do to my truck with 1800 bucks..

Personally, I would fix the rust yourself if you have the space, tools, and time. Nothing will make you feel better and it's a learning experience that you will have with you for the rest of your life. As far as what to do with the cash, I would fix anything on your truck that is a safety hazard, then go from there. What do you want the most, etc. You might try looking in a junk yard for a van tilt if you don't already have one.

Oh yeah, all of the board vendors will have the patch panels you need, so I would check with them. hope this helps somewhat.

Best money you can spend on your truck ... plus you will have $1,775 left over.

Re: What should I do to my truck with 1800 bucks..

HMMMMMM -- i checked the pics of your ride

I would -- in this order

make sure the engine and tranny are tip top and running as they should --- this extends to the rearend and brakes

4 new tires, if not already on there

Install a power brake booster and power steering (convert to 6 lug front discs if the fundage is there)

New tie rod ends, front end bushings, A arm bushings (this also would be a great time to install some lowering springs)

Smaller steering wheel

Sport mirrors

----------------------

We've eaten up a good chunk of $1800 or more if we're buying the above items new from a catalog ------ if you can save some cash -- use whatever's left over to buy that girl of your something to keep her happy -------- she puts up with old trucks, so she can't be all bad.

Paint and bodywork is expensive with a lot of down time --- i vote to wait for the next $1800 before starting that. Plus --- why would you want to remove the trim from a nice truck -- get new trim when you have it re-painted --- trust me - the slick look gets old after awhile and you might want the trim back

Just don't glue down your carpet kit, it can always be pulled and reinstalled later

I dunno what the front end is like I like the steering wheel in it for now lol, and Ima get sport mirrors also..not sure if i want the square ones or round oens...and its not a carpet kit, I just bought a bunch of carpet in a roll..ima just cut it to match.... andn i kept all the old trim i pulled off but for now I dont like it

A brake booster converts manual brakes to power brakes, if it doesn'e have them already. Power drum brakes work surprisingly good --- power discs are better, but they require new disc rotors, calipers, lines, proportining valve etc.

If you just rob them off another truck, they will prob'ly be 5 lug -- which won't match the rear end. This makes it easier to save up and buy a new kit to convert it to 6 lug front discs. But then again, 5 lug may open up your options a little more for different wheels later

Once you know the brakes are tip top, replace anything worn or sloppy in the front end (unless its been redone in the last 10 years, everything on the front may need some attention)

I'd static lower it with some springs and not worry about the body too much now unless you have a Fred Flintstone situation in the floorboards

It looks like a fun truck --- i agree with having better things to spend your cash on when you're 16, but on the other hand, there are a lot worse things too

Re: What should I do to my truck with 1800 bucks..

I think streetstar is right, fix everything mechanical then start on the rust or look at it like this, start on the foundation and work your way up.
Front end, rear end, breaks, engine, transmission, insturmentation, heater, whipers, rattling glass, leaky windows, rust, BUT FIRST get your girls Christmass out of the way!

I'd help you decide, but I cant understand what you are saying. All of the "lol's" and 0 punctuation or grammar make it very hard to understand. Was the English/Writing class taken out of school or something?
