She Dragon 74 GMC

Did anyone catch this truck on Powerblock TV this weekend? I kid of like it, at least for the creativity and fabrication involved. Here is what is on their site...(try to look past Courtney...I know, difficult)

Check out Daniel Dechert’s 12 year restoration project; a 1974 GMC ˝ ton pickup. After his truck broke a crankshaft on the highway Daniel was faced with a decision; crush it or build his dream truck. He wanted a modern looking street truck with big wheels but no lift. It’s got 46” tires, a 582 big block Chevy engine with a Kobelco 14-71 blower that makes over 1500 horsepower, but has be de-tuned to run on the street at @500 HP. The cab was moved back 8” from the front tires, the hood stretched 16” and weighs 100 lbs., the original 8 foot bed was chopped down to 6 ˝ feet, the cab was stretched 22” with no extended cab windows, the frame was stretched 8” and 4” fender flares were made. This is an all steel truck you have to see on The PowerBlock December 6 & 7. Plus you can now bid on several of our project cars on EBay. Go to the main web page for details.

Re: She Dragon 74 GMC

i just saw it. i can admire all of the hard work that was put into the truck. i am not feeling the wheel tire combo. just something about semi truck super singles... the rest looks good. they didnt light the truck very well or showcase it enough on the show. are there any build pics?

Wish she was out of the picture so I could see the truck. Those headlights like a Ford.

Re: She Dragon 74 GMC

I seen it today, but missed the part where they talked about it. And the lighting was bad on it, I thought it was a f*^d ranger with range rover headlights...

I do like it though.

My thought exactly. That is enough to ruin it for me no matter how much fabrication went into it. Furd! Yuck! ...Joe

It was a green/white 74 1/2 ton long bed, they did show progress shots between shows...it was cut apart into a million pieces. It has Range Rover headlights and tail lights.

I think that what he has there is a HUH? The lights are ugly, wheels dumb.I don't know why they even said it was a 74 chevy, cause, there ain't nothin left!!!!! Well,ok,there is a chevy engine,my bad!!!I definitely don't mind custom vehicles showcasing what one can do with a bodystyle, but if you get rid of the bodystyle entirely, why did you want that bodystyle?

You have to start with something. The cab still resembles a 73-87, as do the fenders a little. According to the story, he "started with it" because it was his truck and it broke down. He said he could either build something out of it, or scrap it.

I don't mind it, and applaud him for daring to be different. The way I see it, at least he is out in the garage building something, instead of typing away on a message board not building something. It gives us something to talk about at least.

Re: She Dragon 74 GMC

Any info on this at all pics? Anything?? I like the truck and its a 74 just like all my Camaros. How about info on the buildup.

There were 13,802 1974 Z28's made. I got two of them!
1974 Camaro coupe
1974 Z28 restoration project
1974 Z28 shell (its more of a project)
1992 Chevy Silverado (black with red interior V6 5speed) 454SS wannabe.

Anything with turbos is cool, anything with two turbos is twice as cool!

Re: She Dragon 74 GMC

I actually think that the land rover tail lights aren't so bad. They actually resemble the original 73-87 tail lights a little which pays tribute to them unlike a lot of other tail light variations you see on these trucks.

I also have to applaud the work on the extended cab. He actually made it useful length, instead of sizing it like a mini truck. The overall roof line slants back a little like as it should. I would have added windows myself, but it's still not a bad job.

The headlights and the widebody fenders actually make the truck look a little bit like the newer GMT900 trucks. Anyone notice this ? Even though he's using land rover parts, it still seems GM to a certain degree.

Yes, it's a bit radical. Would I have built that myself ? No. I applaud him for his craftsmanship and his choice to build his truck for himself though. Lets be honest, we've seen a WHOLE lot worse on ebay and our "wtf" threads here with this truck being about 1000 times more tasteful. When it comes down to this truck being crushed or built up, I'd rather see it built up like it is.

Re: She Dragon 74 GMC

I think the tail lights actually flow pretty well with the body lines, dont like the front end much..

There isnt much room for suspension movement in there either. I also wonder what they did for the front end....
