Rear-end conversion question

my recent 68 that i purchased has a 12 bolt rearend just like my 69 that i have. The 69 has been converted to 5 lug so i imagine someone just changed out the axles in it. Is that possible? Could i change the axles from a 10 bolt truck to a 12 bolt. Because the 10 bolt rearend comes from a 81-87 chevy and the u-bolt plates are on the wrong side and they dont have the hole for the bar therefore I just cant change out the rearends. I would think that if they are spline the same it should be a cake walk. Does anyone know the spline count for both before i start popping covers?

Re: Rear-end conversion question

You could use that 5 lug rear end by utilizing one of these kits. I hear the axle swap wont work, there different lengths.

so the only way to make the conversion without changing rearends would be to find a rearend from a 72 truck with 5 lug. If thats the case, changing the whole rearend from a 72 would be just as easy.

Re: Rear-end conversion question

You could do an axle/drum swap.
