My New 86 SWB
Here's my recent buy off craigslist. I sold my 78 Malibu to get a daily driver truck and found this one. An 86 Silverado SWB. This is my first time owning a square body and I love it. I'm glad I was able to find it and think I did pretty good. It has a rebuilt 350 with TBI, 700R4, crack free dash and is very solid. Only a little rust on the cab corners. Otherwise its very stock and runs great. I paid $2650. Well worth it IMO.
Plans are to *try* and resist modding it out too much, but I have a short list in my sig. Here's a pic: |

Re: My New 86 SWB
Nice truck . Code 29 Dk Blue is a nice color . I like the fact that it is a non metallic color . TBI sounds good also . Is it a late production 86 with a factory TBI or did someone add it ?

Re: My New 86 SWB
I've been into G-bodies for awhile.. The Malibu was just a factory 305 black on black, nice orig car. But I sold it for extra cash since it didn't get much use and I needed a truck for hauling. This one fit the bill perfect... now I'm all about these squares.
I don't know much about the TBI but it does appear factory and it runs great. It has been repainted and the paint is fairly decent. I guess its still the factory color?.. I can't wait til spring when I can get a chance to wax it at least. |

Re: My New 86 SWB
The reason I asked is because 87 was officially the first year for TBI . I have heard some late production 86's were fuel injected . Check the vin for the engine code and see if your truck was originally a 5.7 engine . If so , it would have been a TBI since 81-86's came with 305's in half tons . Would make it fairly rare .

Re: My New 86 SWB
Frank I read that too so I was surprised it had TBI. Even the emission sticker under the hood indicates a TBI system and according to the tag in the glove box it came with a 305???

Re: My New 86 SWB
Very nice truck indeed. I envy those of you that have overdrives. It looks nice and clean. What are your thoughts on new centercaps and trim rings? I'm in the same boat as you. Don't know what to get. I've seen 2 inch trim rings, 3 inch trim rings, chrome centercaps, plastic centercaps, so many choices.

I'm not a big fan of the all terrian tires on a 2wd but they still have good tread so I'll be keeping them on for now. I really wish they make a taller wide tire for a 15" wheel! |
