Advice with Pinion Nut
I pulled the pinion nut before reading any info about reinstalling. Now that I have it out without making any lineup marks, what should I do?

And yes the seal was leaking. So that need to be changed as well.....

tighten it down just until is no slop in the pinion and then turn about 1/4 turn, but dont smash that crush sleeve in there any more than it is now, you gotta be careful, or...

That should work pretty good the way that Fast 68 posted. If you do by chance get it too tight,you can pull the yolk,& add some shim(.030-.060) between the yolk & crush sleeve,then pull it up again. Also,I would use blue locktite on the threads. Good luck.....69longhorn.

I have had real good luck using an air impact gun. You will need one just to get the nut off. Set the gun on low first then notch the force setting up until there is no slop in and out. Once you get the slop out then work on the preload. You want a little bit of resistance when you turn the yoke back in forth before the pinion contacts the ring gear.
Or Just put the impact gun on full and zap the nut tight……… :0) This has also worked for me.....

Check out the Engine and Drivetrain board. There are a few threads that go over pinion seals and such. Good luck.
