Frame and chassis paint, what are you fellas using ?

I've always used POR15 with great results, but I figured I'd ask around to see if there are any other alternatives to consider.

If you've used something other than POR or powdercoat, please post a picture of the results too.

Re: Frame and chassis paint, what are you fellas using ?

www.nomorerust.com doesn't cost much, works great and feels like powdercoat. I used the non UV safe stuff but would recommend the AG111 kit...

oh yeah, I put it on with a foam brush...

I have used Eastwood's Chassis Black many times, it's cheap, and tough as nails.

Re: Frame and chassis paint, what are you fellas using ?

I have used POR-15 many times in the past but they don't have a spray version and there are a lot of warnings if you spray the stuff (thinned of course) from the can.

I decided to try Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator and Chassis Black Satin and so far have been VERY happy with them both. I really like the EC as you can get it in a can and roll/brush it on like POR-15 but then use it direct from a spray can to get into areas that are hard to get to. Matches up great. You can check my build for pics.

Good luck.

Re: Frame and chassis paint, what are you fellas using ?

That Nomorerust is a company started by a guy that was with Por-15.He left and started his own company when Por-15 started cheapening their formulas and he knew he could sell something better. The product is used on hiway bridges and many other serious-duty applications.
My 2wd frame was already cleaned up and painted when I bought it.But,it had primer overspray and body shop dust all over it.I cleaned it down and sprayed Duplicolor low gloss black engine paint on because I figured it was pretty tough and I could grab it locally and use it the same day.

My current frame is done in Eastwood Rust Encapsulator, my extra frame is done in Rustolium Industrial black. I have had great luck with both.

Re: Frame and chassis paint, what are you fellas using ?

Looks like the website for nomorerust is down. I'm thinking I may just go with POR15 like I always do. I appreciate everyon'e input so far (and the pictures too).

Re: Frame and chassis paint, what are you fellas using ?

I can get you their number off of my can if you want. I think the AG111 kit comes in gloss (like mine) or satin (like sdailey did) and cost $65 for primer/sealer (silver stuff) and paint. (1 quart of each) It's UV safe too...

I did frame, axles, springs, crossmembers with two coats and only used 1.5 quarts...

Re: Frame and chassis paint, what are you fellas using ?

I used chassis saver, antique satin black. It was highly recommended by a friend who has had good luck with it. Im planning for my truck to be a nice dependable daily driver. The paint store also told me it was more durable than por15 ( I dont know if it is or not). All I know for sure is, WEAR GLOVES IF YOU USE IT! The stuff has to just wear off your hands, so I figure its pretty good stuff. You can find out the specs at www.magnetpaints.com

Re: Frame and chassis paint, what are you fellas using ?

spi epoxy barry company owner highly recomends as a chassis and component coating. he tested its durability by submurging it in brake fluid for 30 days and still had no wrinkling or softening. it will seal against moisture. rust is like fire if it has one of its 3 components taken away it will not continue to grow. cant take the iron out but can remove moisture and o2. easy to apply sprayed or brushed. you can even scuff and recoat if you do scar it reassembling your rig. i highly recomend it. go onto hotrodders.com and search spi or go to their forum site and search or ask questions. even in the paint and body section of this site has good articles about spi. i am not associated with them at all but am a firm believer. it is inexpensive also http://www.southernpolyurethanes.com/Pricing%20Info.htm less than $150 for 2 sprayable gallons twice what you need for frame only.
