Tilt Columns...What works and what Doesn't
As the Day draws closer to the 68 C10 Stepside landing in my Driveway, I am trying to get some information on Mods ahead of time. I will be getting a sh!t load of parts with it, Rotors, Spindles, Tilt columns (3) but have no idea what these parts came from. I will post pictures when I get them. But for Sh!ts and Grins, What GM vehicles, years and models can I get Tilt Columns from that will go in with the least amount of Sawing, tweaking, milling etc.? I know this question has been asked a million times and I have spend ALL weekend reading this forum! The Wife is Pissed!!! ha ha ha...It definately brought back Night mares from the Minitruck days! I am new to the C10 Family after wanting one for 20+ years. Another Question, I may have a chance to get a 1965 C10 Stepside Box. Is there anyone on here who needs a Stepside Bed? I only want it for tailgate and a Step. I may just restore both and sell one of them completely done and primered Without the wood.

Re: Tilt Columns...What works and what Doesn't
Welcome from over here in Asheville. I'll be watching your pics and builds. Sounds like your very knowledgeable with the restoring/customizing thing. As far as the tilts, any from the 67-72 era and some vans up to late 70's I believe will work with a little customizing. I think they changed in the trucks in '73 to a 2.5" column. The 67-72's are a 2" column. Others on here will know more. I got a tilt for my truck out of a van/camper as it was a little different from the factory truck ones, but it'll work.

Tilt column up to 79 in the GMC and Chevy Vans, also in the motor homes.
They work with very little modification.

Re: Tilt Columns...What works and what Doesn't
I pulled three out of vans... any chavy van with round headlights seemed to have a decent tilt.. if it had a tilt that is...

Check motorhomes too, they may be identical to a truck tilt, less mods than a van tilt.

Yep vans are a good source. What you need to avoid is a column with the ignition switch built in - as our trucks have it on the dash.

All van tilts need mods, no fun. Some good techs on this site for the column cuts. Or, get a real one. Try this guy; 865-654-2992 for tilts and at columns.

Re: Tilt Columns...What works and what Doesn't
I'm still trying to figure out what mods need done? Is it the length? I plan on placing it closer to the dash so I don't think that it will matter...

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs. |
