Re: Is this a 69 or 70 Inner Grille?

I am told there are NO replacements made for the 70 grill, NOS or otherwise. Even GM used the 69 grill as a replacement piece back in the 70s.

The picture on that is not real clear, but it looks 69 as I don't see any raised ribs on the grill.

Re: Is this a 69 or 70 Inner Grille?

I bought the real deal from GM up through the`80s.It wasn`t until the restoration parts program that n.o.s. became comfused with repro. The repros GM sells are actually the`70 grille mold but not detailed as a`70 making them appear to be`69s.It`s the`69 grille you can`t get anymore.I`ll have to look up the PN.If it`s true n.o.s. it appears in the pictures to be a true`69.

Special K is correct, it is the '69 grill that is no longer available.

70cst, without seeing it up close, I cannot tell. Ask the seller for close pics. A '70 should like the one below, even if the ribs aren't painted.

Re: Is this a 69 or 70 Inner Grille?

Here's another couple. The top is the flat '69 grill that was painted grey, and the '70 was black has the raised ribs painted silver. Both of these are factory paint grills.

Re: Is this a 69 or 70 Inner Grille?

Hmmm...I see that`s true. The parts book does list that number for 69 & 70.It`s strange since they aren`t the same. But,the book shows another part number for 69 & 70 also,3985054.The description is the same.It must be a typo.

Re: Is this a 69 or 70 Inner Grille?

simply paint the inner ribs black, then viola! a 70 grille.

regardless, it's a GM piece, not a Asian import!

Re: Is this a 69 or 70 Inner Grille?

Can you make a 70 grill out of a 69 grill using, say, a dremmel, tape measure, and a steady hand? I guess what I'm asking is, excluding the recess in the 70 grills, are the "eggcrates" the same on both?

I've always liked the "look" of the 70 grill over the 69.

Yes, technically you could. The size of the "eggcrate" pattern is the same. They are so similiar in design is probably why GM discontinued the '69 grill. I would have never noticed it if I didn't 6 or 7 to look at and compare.
