my new battleship 66 !
hows it goin everyone! just picked up my first 66 lwb fleet...bought it from the second owner who semi restored it from its previous life as a farm truck out in the sticks... these are the picks i got from him before i picked it up (gotta get a camera!)...floorboards were rusted out and body had some dents and rust as well...as it seems, most of that was taken care of (f.boards were welded back in place) and the body is lookin pretty smooth in the pictures but unfortunately it was with redone with bondo and in real life it looks like s--t front end and frame are definitely showin their 43 years of age as well (thats gonna take some time.) no to complain though cause its got the original engine and trans which both only had 92k original miles on them...well, i dont wanna rattle on just yet but everyone seems pretty rad here and there seems to be and endless amount of amazing advice and information available, which im definitely gonna need, haha (mechanical novice)!! so feel free to let me know what you think!...im gonna go do some of this as it is my day off...haha, look forward to talkin to you all!!

Re: my new battleship 66 !
thanks for the warm welcome guys...im not sure how to respond to each person individually, so sorry if this is a little drawn out, but...
my immediate plans are to replace the entire front end as its pretty much on its last leg...i havent had it up on a lift yet but when i was putin in a new alternator and starter, i noticed that all of the front end components are completely rusted out...i mean to the point where no amount of grinding, vinegar, coke, electrolosis, etc...would touch it. plus i gotta get to the rust on the frame asap( chicago weather hates cars). so im thinkin when i get to it, i'll get the grinder goin once i get the old parts off... LILRED, i actually gave you a ring yesterday (i think it was you, 4-5-6 chevytrucks?) to see if i could eventually order some parts from you. I noticed that you sell all OEM parts which i think is awesome...i really wanna keep it as stock as possible...you know, all steel, no fiberglass...and classic gauges and interior components...not this new aftermarket stuff that looks like it belongs on somethin made by nasa now, i've also been having trouble with the wiring, so after 2 drained brand new batteries, i realized that my voltage regulator was fried...now aside from the starter givin me hell sometimes, the truck is runnin well...but...i really dont want to be waiting and wondering whats gonna short out on me next, so i ve decided to rewire put in a new 12 point wiring harness from hot rod wires as soon as it gets warmer... as for the body...rat rod all the way!!! wide whites, red smoothies and possibly a flat gun metal gray (darker than it is now) once i replace all the bondo, and classic white and dark gray upholstery on the stock bench with the same 2 tone trimming in the cab... suspension: i think these trucks look mean as hell lowered...but not to the point where theyre sittin on the ground...dont get me wrong...some look amazing that way as well, but i would rather have that stance on a late 40's early 50's buick/merc lead sled if i had one...as for my truck, i still wanna make it over the 1, 000,000 4 foot tall square speed bumps we have here in the city which drive me nuts as it is engine: keepin the straight 6 in there till it takes a dump on me and then eventually a gm 350ci...not sure what else though yet...im a cruiser...i can wait for all the power and speed until i get my old horse standin and lookin as smooth and sexy as possible sean |

Re: my new battleship 66 !
thanks! yeah the red striping does look pretty good in the pics, but i gotta be honest with ya...it looks like crap in real life...its actually more of an orangish color and it was hand painted on with a brush, probably by the previous owner......theres tons of brush strokes all through out the paint...no bueno...otherwise, the gray was "professionally" sprayed...im assuming with a proper HVLP sprayer cause it looks pretty solid, with no heavy lines or air bubbles anywhere (well, at least where there isnt any rust or bondo, lol)

Wow nice truck. You appear to be starting with a good base. I just keep reminding myself. ITs 40+ years old when I look at mine.
