3 speed trans question
Okay I pulled my tranny out with my motor yesterday. I wanted to drain the old fluid and add new. How much does it hold? what kind do you suggest? also is there a seal at the back of the trans tail shaft? I dont want to add to it and it all leak out say like a automatic. If I have to add to it when its back in the truck where do I do that? I just see a drain plug. 66 trans

I don't recall right off how much it holds. There should be a fill plug on the side of the tranny. Fill it until fluid just starts to run out and you're good to go.

Re: 3 speed trans question
Try posting a picture of the tranmission you have and you can get some good input on the model, fluid amount and type to use.

Re: 3 speed trans question
Fill plug is on the opposite side from the side shown in the photos. The rear seal is easily replaced...pry the old one out with a screwdriver, and gently tap the new one in with a hammer. As stated above, fill it until lube just begins to dribble out of the fill hole. You need two bottle of plain old 80W-90 gear lube. Personally, I'd stay away from synthetics in an older tranny like that.
