Need 67 expert.
Hey guys
I bought a really nice 67 stepside longbed yesterday. Truck is pretty cherry, but has a couple of issues I need help with. The transmission will not shift into second gear. My plan is to swap it with a used one. The truck has a 250 c.i. inline six with a three on the tree. Both seem to be original to the truck. When I start to shop for a tranny, what do I ask for? Does this transmission have a name like tubo 350? |

Welcome from Hoschton, Ga.
Have you checked the linkage? They get real sloppy over the years. I have a '70 that wont go into reverse. |

Re: Need 67 expert.
Hey Kayotic
I have not. I am by no means a mechanic. I mainly do paint and body. I will have a buddy check it out. I bought this truck because the body is in great shape. After driving it, I really hate to cut it up so I think I'm going to fix it and keep it for a while. I am supposed to pick another one up on Friday in Tallahassee thats just a shell. What part of Georgia are you in? |

I reside in Hoschton. Between Winder and Braselton (chateu elan). Looks to be 2hrs North of Lizella.
I am not sure I know the answer to the question about the tranny swap. The L6 engine is new to me, But I think there are bellhousings for a swap to a th350 or th400. I wouldn't know if either are suitable for the L6. My '86 has a TH400 and it's a V6. I am intrested also. If I keep the L6 I might go automatic. Last edited by Kayotic; 01-28-2009 at 11:46 AM. |

I'm trying to find out what the "junkyard lingo" for the transmission I have so I can call and ask if they have a replacement. So far everyone is telling me it is just a standard 3 speed chevy transmission and has no special name. By the way, are you going down to Moultrie in Feb? If you need any body parts for the 70, I have a pretty nice 69 rolling chassis. Short bed, stepside. |

Re: Need 67 expert.
IIRC, they call your tranny a T10 Saginaw. Saginaw being the mafacture, and 10 being a 10" clutch.

Re: Need 67 expert.
Chops, try searching in the FAQ's for a thread on cleaning /adjusting the shift linkage. If you can do paint and body you can adjust the linkage with the write up there.I don't have a direct link or I would provide it.The linkage is probably dirty and may have worn bushings, niether of which takes a mechanic to do.
Member krue has indexed the FAQ's section for quicker look up.
