Short vs Long

I'm curious of some peoples reasons why they prefer a short over a long or vice versa when it comes to looking at the box style.

I prefer short box but do like long box.

Re: Short vs Long

In my mind things have to be symmetrical, and have balance to flow properly. The proportions of a SWB truck are symmetrically correct, and become enhanced when lowered.

I use the same sense of balance on a lifted truck. Once raised in the air a LWB looks more visually correct.

Hmm thats a good way of putting it.

But I've seen some long boxes that look.. It just seems that in different areas of where you live certain trucks are easier to find than others.

Like I've been looking lately and 90% of the trucks in my area are all long box.

x2 Thats exactly my thinking as well. I am not super picky though I use 4wheel drive up here and like the long beds but if there's an awesome deal on a short bed I will probably take it.

I prefer longbed, and for the same reason I prefer 3/4 ton... It's big!

I have to agree with N2TRUX, he has said what I was thinking when I read the post. Although, I have nothing against the Long beds. The long beds have an awesome ride.

Re: Short vs Long

I like the short bed trucks better in 2wd but the long bed lifted 4x4's are really growing on me .It is just a matter of personal taste I think. Some people see the long bed as more of a "work truck" too I think so that may be some of it.

Oh I know it sits high and I have budgeted money aside for a drop. I was looking at Summit and it seems to be about $700 US for a 5/6 drop.

That's using 2.5" spindles with 3" springs and a flip kit.

Re: Short vs Long

I like longbeds because once I put my toolbox on it, I have a shortbed spacewise. If I put a toolbox on a shortbed, there's not much left. I gotta have a toolbox, not for tools but it's my trunk for all my junk. my first one was a shorty and it always looked a little out of proportion. I got to looking and the fact the cab and front end are longer than the short bed looked off to me. My lwb satisfys my sense of proportion...lol

Re: Short vs Long

like it was said every-1 has a short bed I like to be different so I got a long bed. I like the long bed for one thing only if i want to put a tool box on it i'll still have 6 or so feet were the short is not a tool box truck. trucks to me have to have a tool box. also a full sheet of ply wood fits perfect lol

I like the long chevy's cause its different and they ride much nicer. And as far as lifting and dropping i think the lwb looks better lowered and the swb looks ok lifted.

Re: Short vs Long

i like long beds - they just seem proportioned more evenly than a shorty in that the tray/bed shouldnt be shorter than the cab... just my opinion...

That's how I see it. I had a short fleet and a short step and they both looked
stubby to me after seeing them every day.

I think a 7 foot bed would be ideal on any big body truck.
Pre 60s trucks look fine to me with a 6 foot bed because the cab is smaller.

You could put a sleeper cab on it and make it look shorter.

But get what you really want, don't let us decide for you.
