New Member - Just purchased a '65 sbss
I just bought this truck off of a guy at work. It has sat around for a few years in his shop since he bought his new truck. This was pretty much just a trash hauler. I fell for it and decided to buy it from him.
I have been searching, but cannot find a whole lot of short step sides. Id like to get some ideas to see what you guys do with them before I decide to go ahead and try to find a short fleetside bed. That was my plan, but plans change. I need to know what about these trucks are worth to see if I got ripped off or not. Either way I still like it. I gave 1500.00 for it. 350sbc, TH350 trans, bucket seats, new floors and one new rocker already installed, both cab corners done, and and 2 brand new bedsides with fiberglass fenders that were cut for a tub that he never did along with the truck. He told me that the bed that is on this truck is off of a 59 apache. Is the bed for a 65 the same? Thanks all and here's a couple pictures. |

from cali that is not bad of a price to pay for all the work and parts that have been put into the truck and also the 350/350 combo.

Welcome! I think its a pretty good deal. The bed is the same so you shouldn't have to worry about that.

Awesome deal man...I would keep the stepside bed...don't change it to a fleetside. (But it's dependent on your opinion) You can check whether or not it was orginally a stepside by the VIN number located on the drivers side door frame.
Looks Nice!

Welcome to the forums from Kansas City, KS. It is good to see another member from the state of Kansas. Stepside beds were the same from '55 to '66. I think you did good with your purchase. Congrats. Remember to post early and often, especially photos. Good luck with your project. |

Re: New Member - Just purchased a '65 sbss
Welcome from Florida!! Sounds like you got a great deal! The 63 I previously owned had bad rockers, bad floors, door bottoms didnt exist, needed a new hood, engine, and transmission too. Paid 600 bones for it. With all that work already done, you got a great deal.

Re: New Member - Just purchased a '65 sbss
Thanks to all for the reply's. Im glad you guys feel like it was a good deal. I didn't know what I had and what i didnt have, you know? The truck is an original stepside. It does have Power brakes and discs on all 4. The booster is acting up so the brakes are a little weird, but Ill run down to the salvage yard and find another booster somewhere.
I went to classic parts website and ordered some sheet metal parts and ill post pics when I get them bolted on, bodywork done and the parts and jams edged in. All my parts will be here between the 6th and the 8th. If you guys want ill do a write up with pictures of all the old coming out, new going in and some of the painting and body process that I do. Later guys. Drive safe. |

Welcome to the boards and nice truck. I'd keep it a stepside but that's just me.

Re: New Member - Just purchased a '65 sbss
Thanks again guys. I am a bodyman/painter combo guy by trade. I have done a lot of custom type harley paintings and bodywork. If you guys would like to see some of it .. let me know. I dont want to burn up your board with things that dont apply with "trucks".
On my truck I plan on painting it House of Kolor candy 'Tangelo' with some kind of either powder coated gun metal or polished wheels like torq'r 2's or like a pro touring look. 20" on back 17" or 18" on front. I found this truck as inspiration of what I want my truck to kind of look like. Sorry that I didnt get permission from who it belongs to, but I just really liked it and wanted to share. the stance is good, the look is good. Congrats to the proud owner. I havent seen a lot of factory "greys". .. or is there a factory grey? I heard that all interiors were liek a metalic gold color? Is that true? |
