4 Speed Clunking
I replaced my clutch over the weekend and have spent the last two days putting some miles on it breaking it in and seeing how things go.
Only thing I've noticed so far is at low speeds while I'm not pressing the gas, shifting into 2nd and 3rd I get 4 or 5 quick clunks coming from in or around the transmission. I have no clue what it might be, and I'm hoping nothing is coming loose. But I've put the pedal down a few times so far and everything seems tight. Downshifts are solid and product no noise. Any ideas? |

Re: 4 Speed Clunking
No mention of the pilot bearing being checked and replaced either.

Re: 4 Speed Clunking
I dunno about this one but could it be that since the flywheel was re-ground (you did do that right?) and you have a new clutch plate, until it's all broken in could it be extra grabby as it is clutched in and out causing the transmission to clunk a few times? Do you have the clutch adjusted correctly since it's a new clutch plate?

Re: 4 Speed Clunking
Are the rear bellhousing mounts (on the crossmember) good? Maybe they could have been broken/separated when jacking the trans? ( I am assuming you have an SM 465 that hangs off the bellhousing? Carrier bearing seated correctly in the rubber? Just acouple of shooting in the dark possibles.

Re: 4 Speed Clunking
I have a Muncie M20 and if I heard clunks like that I would have a heart attack. Have that looked at because it could be a big problem.
