Finally out of the shadows

I've been lurking in the corners around here for about a year reading and learning. I'm a Wyotech grad, former Subaru Tech and Chevy Installer (almost 10yrs ago).. anyway.. I picked-up my first truck about a year ago, a '67 short step. base model small back window, no a/c, 250cid 3 on the tree. Worked solid for about 2months and picked up an 86 monte carlo SS that ran, so the truck went to the back burner for a bit. just picked up an 86 1/2 ton long bed donor truck so it's time to revive the 67...


Sorry for that I know it belongs in the Newbie section.


On to the Question. Ive been looking around and have found posts on swapping the mounts from the 86 to the 67, and i know i will have to grind out section of the frame to fit the steering box. (no notch in my frame) since im going from 3spd to TH350 is my low floor plan going to be an issue? i think i should have more than enough room at the fire wall for the engine..


will also be selling off the body and remains of the 86 when finished. Ill post pics in the Sales section when I have them w/ in the next 2mo..

also looking for any pics i found 100's of chevy and i know mines the "ugly" step-brother but who wants to fit in??

Welcome, to the site. Glad you're out of the shadows and into the the light.

I converted my 69 250 three speed manual to 350/350 with no space problems. Frame, cab, dimensions on these trucks are pretty much the same.

Welcome to the board. Great looking project. Everybody knows 67's are the coolest, but some only admit it to themselves! Just an FYI if you don't already know, you can use the front disc brake stuff off the '86 on your '67 if want discs. Saves lots of $$$ doing it that way.

Thats the only reason i bought the 86.. Brakes, power steering, a/c components (mostly cores)

nice monte! I used to drive a regal t type and would race these all the time. looks like the tires are rolling a little off kilter there
great lookin 67 GMC there too, I like them early 4 eyed trucks

Don't let the chevy guys give you and grief.... GMC's are cooler, everyone knows it, yet only few admit to it.
Your low hump cab is going to be fine. That's what GM put over small block/auto equipped trucks, all 3 auto trannys... dfon't let anyone tell you otherwise. There were a few odd balls that had an unexplainable high hump with that combo, but they were built 'wrong'.
Let me be the first to say... I hope you keep the stepside bed on there. Short step trucks are sexy, a 67 GMC one is even better.
I agree on the disks off the parts truck, and if your GMC has the leaf sprung rear (most GMCs did) then you can just swap your later model rear in there too. 5 lug and disk brakes.

the brakes are the main reason i picked up the 86.. couldnt say no to a complete truck for $300.. And yes the guy i bought the Monte Carlo from has 15x8.5... im looking for some factory replacements..

The truck in running leaf in the rear, so does my donor truck... the fenders are repro. and have some major fit issues on the driver side. am going to use them to repair the originals on both sides..

The early '80's front end & axle swap to get 5-lugs was exactly what was done to mine.

Haven't decided if im keeping the side mount spare.. I have mixed feelings about it. not to mention it means spending extra $$ on a 5th rim
