I hope somemne can help me out. Is there anyway to get a new sticker reprinted for the glove box door by using the vin number or any thing like that?

Re: glove box data sticker

Jeff (Chipflyer) can make you a new one if you have the old one: http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...er.php?u=12216
Here is his website: http://www.outintheshop.com/

If you don't have the old one you can't find the options from your VIN. If your truck was built in Canada you can order the restoration packet from GM which may give you the info you are looking for. If it was built in the US you can order the packet too, but it won't have the specific option info on it.

Why not? It's not a VIN tag, simply an options list.

Why wouldn't it be? The VIN has nothing to do with options

Why is everyone answering my question with a question. I just want to know if this is legal or not.

I would venture to guess that this is similar to making a clone car. There are many people who create clone hemi mopars. Obviously, there is nothing illegal there. Now, if one has created a clone and is trying to pass it off as an original, that would be unethical, and fraud. I would guess that your question would have great validity when one condsiders the senario of the buyer who purchases a clone but is unaware that it has been optioned up, and a new SPID label affixed. Now, that buyer, thinking he/she is in the possession of an original fully optioned truck/car and goes to sell it, who is responsible if the new owner comes to realize the vehicle is not an originally optioned car/truck: the previous owner, or the one who did the upgrades?

I don't know the answer to either of these questions, but I never plan on getting rid of my truck. And when I do, I'll be dead or gas will be nonexistant.

Yes, you won't be dissapointed. I bought one off of him on ebay. I have since added many options to my build list and need to order another. You cannot tell the difference from this one and the original.

YES it is legal. I wish it was illegal, then it would make it more fun!

If it were illegal, then Jeff would probably be serving multiple life sentences for all the ones he has made.

Re: glove box data sticker

It`s an opportunity to be unethical, but not illegal. That`s worse than breaking the law as far as I`m concerned. When I first saw these were made back about 20 years ago,I realized there`d be some counterfieting. But,I was only buying original unrestored trucks,so it didn`t worry me.Any restored truck with a new SPID,I`d need to see the options bonified or I wouldn`t buy it as authentic. It`s just a sticker, but it`s all that shows what was original.I guess if one`s been peeled you`re screwed unless you have the paperwork from ordering.I like the idea of a SPID showing a truck just how it was built...again.It`s just never to be sold as an original truck.I even made one with made up option numbers for somethings like an LS6 motor, colors, and other non-original things. But,it`s my responsibility to tell people and not assume they know.
*If you look at a truck with all these options, then check the SPID seeing they are all there but it`s replaced would you get all excited and buy without asking? If so,shame shame. An honest person would still make sure you`re aware it`s not original. And,if you ask he better give an honest answer.
*If you look at a truck and the seller tells you it has all these options and shows you the new SPID as if that`s proof,he might as well be telling you the truck`s all original. It better be or he`s misleading you. But,you`ll know to ask him bluntly.A`less knowledgable person will get taken.

Re: glove box data sticker

If someone is using them to falsely represent a truck they might be selling as originally having any option not on it when it left the factory, then it is fraud. This is a HUGE problem among 67-69 Camaros. Now however, if you did what I did, it is kinda obvious that it is not real. Can you tell?

EDIT: I still have the original glove box door with original SPID that will go with the truck when the owner picks it up, which shows how it originally was delivered

I Believe the correct part # for the 5 spd should have ended in BS?

Could not tell ya. I gave Jeff the option code for '93 NV4500 in a C3500 and he elaborated it from there.

Re: glove box data sticker

I know my father and i had this discussion he has a very nicely equipped truck to start with, he added the sliding rear glass, tilt, am fm push button radio, and a couple of other things..but he wouldn't add them on the SPID..even though they are true to the truck.

Re: glove box data sticker

Yeah Mike, the 5spd & aluminum wheels.Cool...that`s what I`m talking about.I first came to know about blank SPIDs when I chromed a glovebox door on a truck with alot of rare options.I saved the original door/SPID,too,and had another door chromed.I told a guy I hated losing the SPID showing all the stuff and he said just buy a blank and print another.Right away I thought,"Well that`s not the same".Only an original one shows authenticity.
I think the repro b;anks show have a variation that shows it`s not authentic so later on down the road when the SPID shows age and passes other hands it will still be known to be a replacement.

Re: glove box data sticker

you could try some brake cleaner or paint thinner on a rag and try to lightly rub the paint off, there is no other way to see factory options other than the SPID

That's hilarious. Here we are so busy bickering about SPID's for the last day that no one thought to mention the build sheet.
